The truth: in Costa Rica, or anywhere else for that matter, ayahuasca should be approached with respect. Its benevolent shamanic uses do not intend to turn anyone into a zombie, but the strong psychotropic properties and high levels of alkaloids in the infusion call for its responsible use.

Seems quite reasonable.

See what you mean though. The sensationalist title may cause people to get the wrong idea.

An evil part of my mind just came up with compelling evidence to support this nonsense.

The nexus ranks too high with the search engines, so I must keep mum on that one.

...

You know, people STILL believe that LSD causes chromosone damage. Did I ever tell you about the guy who thinks he's a glass of orange juice? Thirty years after taking one hit of acid and he's still messed up....the upshot: an ignorant minority will now always think of ayahuasca as zombi sauce. I mean, it almost made jenifer aniston jump from a tree, remember? Zombi sauce is not so far fetched anymore, issit?

The real kicker--the coorporation who invented the real zombi virus is probably responsible for this disinfo, a classic misdirection.

I appreciate your perspective.

I could see that the author of the article was "kind of" trying to stand up for Ayahuasca in a twisted, sensationalistic way. But still....

Lots of people don't even read the whole article...and that headline is no bueno...

And all this is a friggin' election year....

Were lucky if the GOP doesn't start up a "Just Say NO to flesh eating zombie potions"
Campaign this year.

Headline looks bad, actual article not so much as it pins most of the so-called zombiism on scopolamine.

In any case I doubt if the Costa Rica Star gets a wide circulation.

Scopolamine and other tropanes, present in datura and brugmansia can indeed turn you into a zombie.

In some south and middle american countries, tropanes are used by criminals to put people into a zombie-state. In this state, people will voluntarily hand these criminals their money, creditcards and the corresponding personal code´s, etc.

In india there is a cult that also uses tropanes to induce such states of mindlesness.
That cult practices the indian equivalent of what westerners would call satanism.

There are stories about a 'dark' form of shamanism, practiced in the amazonian region as well, and although i have very little knowledge about these practices, i would not be surprised if brugmansia would be the sacrament of choice for these 'dark curandero´s'.

In this zombie-state, you lose your self-awareness as well as other higher cognitive/mental functions while many automatisms remain intact.

You are no longer able to reflect upon your own actions, you can easily be manipulated once you´re in this state. People would chop-off their own arms or kill their loved ones if they where ordered to do so.....that´s how mindless a person can become when enough tropanes are taken.

That´s why i think that cults that we would call 'satanical' have a preference for these kind of substances: it fits their doctrines of 'liberation'.

Tropanes aren´t hallucinogens, they´re deliriants. The effects of a high dose of tropanes are in that sense comparable with those of a near-fatal amount of alcohol...They actually make an alcohol binge look mild.

Though brugmansia is sometimes used as an admixture in ayahuasca-brews, it has nothing to do with ayahuasca. In small amounts, not enough by far, to have any psychotropic effects by themselves, tropanes enhance the effects of psychedelics.

The author of this article probably didn´t make the headline himself, as the tone of the article is totally different from the that of the headline.
It must have been a misguided editor.

Misguided editors are like the curse of bad journalism....they´re a bit like zombies themselves.

im pretty sure the author dropped some pretty serious hints that ayahuasca was not at all to be blamed in these sorts of things

And talking about RC's like these "bath salts" on the same page as ayahuasca just shows how ignorant these news reporters are Sad

Can't agree more. We really shouldn't blame journalists, their words get so twisted by editors.

Such a piss off.

I agree: sounds like the journalist has taken ayahuasca, and the editor created the title and selected him to write about it.

He even calls its respectful, shamanic use benevolent.

But for someone who knows nothing about ayahuasca and only reads the headline...different story.
