I went to my local head shop today to see if they stocked the GVG, and unfortunately they did, but were sold out. So, to hold me over until I order one, I picked up a small bubbler for $14.00. Here are some pics of it. My question is, with the design of the bowl, what would be the best way to go about using this? I put a dime in it so you can get some idea of how big it is. I had two thoughts, the first would be to put the copper mesh in the smaller half, and place a couple brass screens over the top, and the second was to fill the smaller bottom hole with mesh, and make a disk like the ones described other places on this forum for the top part.

Also, is the copper mesh a must, or does the steel stuff work just as good? And, I've seen somewhere on here that you should make a little tail with the mesh and have it extend out, and actually hit this with the torch directly, and let that heat up the part holding the spice. Is this a good way, or should I just point the torch directly at the mesh, or actually heat up the glass.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

That could work. The problem is that unless you hit it just right, your spice will run down the stem. I would put a number of brass screens in there, and then definitely use the copper scrubber. Aim your torch directly at the scrubber, but keep it at a distance. Or instead, see if your local head shop man has a long stemmed oil bulb that you can drop in in place of that bowl. Or, make the enhanced leaf. It's very easy and hassle free. Then what you have there should be fine.

I decided to bite the bullet, and buy a GVG, plus, I decided that I wanted my first time to be done with spice that I extracted myself. I plan now to blast off this coming Friday provided the GVG gets here in time. I ordered it Thursday night, so I'm thinking it should be here in time. This also gives me more time to prepare myself mentally. I can't wait to post my first report! Below is a pic of my first pull.

Good choice ordering the GVG. Don't forget to get some copper mesh and make the disc to put in there. And also don't forget to get a good torch lighter. Keep the flame a few cm's away, draw in the warm air, watch the vapor, try to remember the second and third pulls and how to use the lighter, and then try to remember to set the GVG down gently someplace nearby safe.

You are stoked your genie is on the way.

Damn right I'm stoked! I've got a very close friend that's going to be there with me, so I'll have someone to help me with lighting, and Genie sitting if it's needed.Wink
