Well, this isn't such a big deal in the scheme of things BUT,
for the last several months I have been cursed with the worst worst worst sinuses or allergies or something that makes my nose just get so congested that I can't even breathe through it. The symptoms are worst at night when I am laying down to sleep and just at night in general. I am forced to breathe through my mouth which distracts and gives my a headache, making sleeping difficult and I am at my wits end with it.
During the day it can be so bad that I have no choice but to take Claratin-D which helps tremendously but it is very expensive and I don't want to rely/take a medication 24/7.
Does anyone else have experience with this or any advice on the matter? Anything is appreciated, it's driving me mad.
~Much love

I had something similar since last year, it also was affecting my sleeping, I even started snoring and I had never done so in my life.
I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago and found out I have a polyp in one of the nostrils, which is a benign growth that starts blocking the airway, and I will have to remove it surgicallly (which sucks but at the same time im happy it will be good again).... In the meanwhile, the two things that help me the most is doing some salt water drops sinus cleaning (just drop it there, let it be for a few seconds and blow it out), as well as breathing some tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia). I can't recommend tea tree enough, it's really amazing how it changes consistency of mucus and opens things up.
I suggest going to the doctor to check if you dont have a polyp too.

I am home from school so I have been eating what my mom has been cooking me (heaven) and it's usually pretty healthy stuff because she's a health nut. But when I'm at school I eat like crap, I'm DEFINITELY changing this when I go back though. Sorry that you have to have surgery done, but I bet it's going to make things 100x better for you! For the salt water drops is it just by definition, salt in water and then drop it in the nose? And for the tea tree oil can that be picked up at any food store? I will be going to the doctor within the month to see what they can find.

Yeah Sky Motion, it always got specially congested at night. Then sometimes for example I would turn to one side, and the nostril that was lower got more blocked, and the other sometimes more free, and if I changed sides it would invert, but usually one nostril was (is) always congested more often.
Usually eating well, doing regular exercise and not smoking (including weed) can help. The other thing is seeing if you have any possible alergy source youre being exposed to. Maybe doing some allergy tests is also a good thing. Long term exposure to alergen seems to also be a potential cause for polyps, I wonder if in my case it has to do with the cat, or with some city polution or what (I was never alergic to anything AFAIK but it might just not be obvious or strong alergy)
Your problem might be another, who knows, but it's indeed worth checking it out. Good luck, be sure to let us know how it goes!
oh and, yeah just salt and water. You can either buy some sterile saline solution in the pharmacy or make it yourself, I dont remember the best dilution/ratio for salt to water but im sure a simple google search can help. As for tea tree, maybe try natural food stores, or buy over the internet, tea tree oil. A small vial should last a long time, I dont even drop it somewhere, just uncap it and breathe in.

Do you know if they are outdoor or indoor allergies? If they are outdoor, I suggest eating a spoonful of locally made honey every morning. The idea is that it contains pollen from the local flora and it'll help build your immunity to whatever's causing your allergies. As for unclogging your nose for when you sleep, I can agree with tele, using a neti pot to rinse out your nose is very effective, just be sure to use bottled or filtered water and follow the directions it comes with lest you want your nose to burn... also if you don't like the idea of flushing your sinuses out with water, you could also try wearing a breathe right strip on your nose at night, if worn correctly they work like a charm at opening up your nose. A dramatic shift approaches...

It's posts like these that make me love the nexus, and that's why I choose it over google sometimes. Endlessness, the night thing you describe is identical to mine. I do not eat great, and rarely exercise, and that may be half the battle itself. I will be taking a nice bike ride tomorrow and get off my butt Thanks so much for the post and info, means a lot.

The saline solution works. I've used it for allergies and to clean up the sinuses after colds or flus, before the mucus dries and completely blocks the already narrow, inflamed ways. Here you can get saline solutions with different salt concentration in the pharmacy, they come in a spray that shoots the liquid up inside your nostril. But you can mix it yourself and sniff it like endlessness suggests. Also, you might want to cut out milk and dairy in your diet. They are related to extra mucus production. This may come off as a bit of a rude question but if your allergies are indoor, when was the last time you dusted your house? Perhaps you should try taking a weekend to do nothing more than clean and dust the entire house, open all the windows and vent all the air with fresh air. I say this because SWIM was having what she thought was indoor allergies, but after she finished her annual spring cleaning/dusting she noticed her allergies were diminished. If you tend to have your ceiling fans on to circulate air, take a ladder and look on the topside of the fan blades... first time I did that I was shocked with how much dust can collect onto a moving object. A dramatic shift approaches...

Happy to hear that you want to change it I have had blocked other nostril for many years and when I changed from eating garbage into fruit, leafy greens and occasional nuts & seeds using diet called high carb low fat raw vegan(www.30bananasaday.com) my problems with breathing and nose blockage have gone down significantly during the overall cleaning of the system. I agree on the cleaning of the house too, it really makes a big difference. A flat mop I have found is nice to use to clean the floor surfaces after the bigger particles have been removed with broom and shovel. Also it is good to use detergents made from natural sources that have no added odor, these can be found from the health food stores.

Not rude no worries. I have worried about the same thing, and have cleaned thoroughly already and use an air purifier in my room but it doesn't seem to do the trick. I think bigger than just allergies, like maybe a combination of that & sinus issues inside the nose. Hopefully the doctor will be able to tell.

I've been dealing with similar issues and, for some reason, stretching seems to help (especially the big muscles in the leg). Every time a muscle 'releases', so does the congestion.

Do you smoke (either tobaco or weed)? I'm saying that cause I had the same problem a year ago and it all stopped when I quit smoking. "If you have any answers, We will be glad to provide full and detailed questions."

I am just getting over a congested head. Do you drink enough water buds? Go buy a HOT curry and if that does not fix it for a while, they might have to amputate. ;P "Given enough Time even Hydrogen starts to wonder where it came from, and where it is going"

Yeah I'm always hydrated I love water,
right now I'm using Claratin-D and it's working wonders but it sucks that I have to rely on it.

This probably isn't the problem your experiencing since it is over such a long term...but I've noticed a feeling of congestion (like a cold is coming on) after dealing with Naptha fumes even with seemingly good ventilation. This will last several hours...

The climates are changing, Here in Australia it has been raining like the Amazon for a few years now, very odd. Maybe there is something new growing in your ecosystem? Do you normally suffer from hay-fever? "Given enough Time even Hydrogen starts to wonder where it came from, and where it is going"
