Hi, I've lurked here for a while, lots of good info on this site, just looking for advice for a situation of mine.

I've been reading up on Ibogaine for a while and it's advertised effects on "resetting" the brain to a pre-addiction, the psychological root cause of taking said drugs, and also curing stuff such as anxiety, depression, OCD etc. I'm a little bit experienced with psychedelics, as I have done ayahuasca with locals in Peru, but I didn't go through with the entire thing as the visuals were too much for me to process and integrate at the time, so I left early and went back to the states. I feel I'm a bit more ready this time around as far as using psychedelics go, as I have an actual purpose for going this route. Most of the places I've researched seem to be in Mexico, but there are one or two in Costa Rica I'm looking into. I speak spanish and I'm used to traveling and getting around so I'm not too worried about safety or language barriers.

To be brief, I'd like to do this mainly with the hopes of correcting the changes to my mind and personality that stem from using research chemicals. Although I've completely stopped using RC's in January and don't have cravings, I feel as if my mind is addicted to not being sober, as I've replaced RC's with alcohol, cigs, and energy drinks when I feel the need to escape reality. Personality-wise, I now have anxiety, negative thought patterns, 24/7 irritability, low confidence, and just a general feeling of deep uneasiness about myself that wasn't there prior to RC use.

I've thought about just ordering the stuff alone and doing it at my house or at the beach on the cheap, but I'd much prefer a controlled environment where someone more experienced can guide me through the healing process. All thoughts advice on my plan would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reading

I don't have any advise on what to do or anything but have you read Daniel Pinchbecks' Breaking Open The Head? It has a chapter on his iboga experiences in Gambon with the Bwiti people which may give you more of an insight into what a tribal experience could be like.
The trees spoke to me through the wind. The more I listened, the more they spoke.

its best not to have any ideas of what an iboga experience is like until you do it, it breaks the concept of idea very much like dmt does but also very different at the same time.

i would say that it is a wonder drug but how much it can help you depends on you, your relationship to yourself and the world around you/inside you. But please do it with people that are experts with it, not on the cheap or alone.

A good provider should at least request an ekg and blood tests from you.

blessed be all forms of intelligence

I won't be doing it with the Bwiti unfortunately. It will most likely be in a Latin American country with Americans and/or locals of said country.

Thanks for the reply. I definitely won't do it alone and I'm speaking on the phone with a few providers to get a feel for them and see how knowledgeable they are. I just spoke to a provider yesterday, he seemed very knowledgeable about psychedelic experience, drugs, legal highs, and just about everything I could throw at him. All places I've called so far request ekg's and bloodwork, but man do they charge money by the bucketload. Cheapest place I found was asking for $2000 for 10 days. Most ppl are charging 6-12k, which just blows my mind.

I suppose I could just throw it all on a credit card and pay it off with my savings (bad idea) but the thing that bugs me is this. Alot of these retreat places, not just iboga but the whole ayahuasca scene that has sprung up in recent times, seem to be doing good work for a good cause and genuinely want to help people, and I get that there are operating costs to keep a place going and wouldn't expect people to do stuff like this for free, but I really can't wrap my head around these hefty baller-status type price tags. What's up with that?

I definitely found my experience to have lasting positive effects, but it was harrowing. You can't walk away after you take your dose dude, it's a lot different than ayahuasca.
There's a nice forum on it, if you haven't checked it out already. eboka.info
It was the fabled year 2012. Within the seemingly doomed and feeble slave-species of homo-sapien sapien a minute percentage began experimenting with various forms of psycho-active plant allies and thought manifestation techniques. Unbeknownst to them, this would be the birthing of a new sub-species, the highest form of Life in the universe. With the assistance of these timeless plant teachers a new race was born, a race without boundaries, physical or mental, a race without judgement or violence. Divinity had descended upon the inconspicuous planet of Earth and cosmic-man was born.

Please share any interesting information you find, and your experiences; good luck with your journey. I suspect there are many more lurkers here on the same path that could benefit from the information.

BTW: could you please elaborate as to what you think caused these negative personality changes? I.e. what substance, for how long, etc.

The little research I've done on Ibogaine always began with stories of opiate addiction - there seemed to be a high success rate with treatment as well.

BTW I know some here aren't fans but 'Drugs INC' on natgeo has an ep. with Ibo & Aya. Nothing too wise but I suppose it's worth a watch.
