I've heard many stories in which this happened. Can't seem to find any right now though.

Have you guys heard about this? He would either show himself or talk to them when asked to.

this happened to me last time i took shrooms-3 grams a month or so ago when had most magical unbelievable night of my life, was thinking of posting it on here but decided to keep to my self till reading ur thread. Ive had many powerful trips on much higher doeses of shrooms, as well as aya, lsd,dmt, changa... but nothing like this. I know there aren’t words to describe what happened but ill do my best telling the stuff i recollect, snapshots of the night since most was a blur. It could have just been my imagination, I wasnt expecting him or nething just out of the blue during my peak, he showed i heard him and more importantly felt him and his immmmense energy and spirit within me. He said yesss now u see. And i believe i had a vision of the singularity. Everything was in perfect synchronicity beyond imagination,i was in this cosmic worlwind of spirals and patterns i was swimming in all in perfect ryhthem and synergy i saw it all come together-art,music,dance, nature getting more and more in sync n in tune until reached an epox of beauty and emotion. Never in whole life did i feel so much energy n full of life. I learned that night that everything that happened up till now, all history was necessary and leading into what is soon to come. it is natures tendency to b in harmony and slowly that is where were heading, just as a catterpillar changes into a butterfly and learns to fly we are just now growing are wings, we are all a part of nature not separate playing part in this awesome symphony of magic.

It's happened to me. Repeatedly actually, and its often caused me to question why this happens. Part of me wonders if Terence developed such a close relationship with the mushroom that after his death he sort of became the fungi's herald. Another part of me wonders if Terence is actually just an archetype for the exploring soul and we as psychonauts relate to him so greatly that it seems his presence is with us while exploring hyperspace. Still another part of me wonders if I was Terence in another life...


Whatever the reality of the situation actually may be, there was one time this happened to me that really caused me to question just who exactly Terence was. I was tripping with some friends around a campfire and they were all pretty much off in their own little worlds by this point in the experience. I was just sort of staring into the fire, when I heard Terence plain as day inside of my head say "You should try asking the thing what it is for itself."

This is an experiment he talked about in a few of his lectures and I highly recommend the curious minded to try it because what happens is highly peculiar. It seems the presence of the mushroom experience has no concept of what it is for itself. By asking this question you are essentially locking it into a paradox; it seeks to answer this question but not knowing the answer itself the trip takes on a very strange tone and your left wondering (at least I was) if the presence you experience is really just a reflection of yourself, which is why it has no concept of what it is apart from you.

In any case, when I tried this and I got the result I just mentioned, I had the most sensational experience of deja vu. It was as if somehow I was the one who had originally discovered that trick, about asking the mushroom what it is for itself, only it wasn't in this life. It felt like a memory of something I had figured out in another lifetime and sort of dragged it over into this lifetime. Then I started wondering if maybe I WAS Terence in another life. Then I started thinking that maybe ALL psychonauts are Terence in some way or another. He mentioned in that Omnibus series that what he considered himself to be was the cutting edge of a gene swarm, sort of signifying that others would come after him in a similar fashion as he had presented himself and when you look around this community you can see how Terence's spirit lives in each of us.

Who knows?

It would be interesting to hear this kind of experience from someone who does not know who McKenna was. Then I would believe that he did came to talk to you and it was not just your mind that created him.

Yeah I'm kinda swaying towards the idea that people see/feel/hear him due to listening to his lectures or watching his videos and forming a relationship with him through these, which then manifests in these altered states as that is what he is associated with in their minds.
I have listened to hours of him and watched a few of his vids and have never experienced him during a trip. It would be flippen awesome though, I always wanted to meet him.

Tek- interesting comment... There have been moments when I'm in the process of inhaling DMT, usually while already on acid, where at that moment I shared a space with everyone in history who has ever done the same. Temporary loss of time/space boundaries. At that moment, I am, among other things, Terence.

I had the privilege of meeting him at a 2 day lecture he gave in Chicago a long time ago. The meeting was brief but I got to tell him my favorite Terence quote (his description of a spontaneously arising DMT object being the "concrescence of linguistic intentionality"- something about that line has always guided me as an artist). I did get to meet some other amazing people at that lecture. No Internet to turn to, back then.

Now when I smoke, I'll hear his elvin voice: "Just when you think you've had enough, take one more!"

This has gotten me into trouble.

I read one account of a guy tripping on mushrooms at Burning Man a little while back. In it the guy described during his experience, this impish but very familiar character suddenly appeared, he was sure it was Terrence. He experienced the aggressive and rare brain cancer Terrence was afflicted with prior to his death. He felt he experienced this perspective as Terrence's brain, as it deteriorated and was consumed by the cancer, with neuronal links darkening and vanishing and his great mind being eaten away from the inside by this cancerous darkness.

Ha I do like the fungi herald idea, think Terrence would have liked that. I can't help but think of the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but with Terrence being reborn entwined in a mycelium of light that illuminates the "cosmic giggle" as he called it.

i never had a random Terence encounter will being high on anything, maybe i would if i would take more psychedelics, but im picky about where and how i trip. me being the nervous one

However, the first time i smoked DMT i decided it was nesscasry to put on my headphones and listen to one of his lectures. it went great with the DMT trip, the colours, lights, sounds were all too unbelievable to imagine. during the trip my body wanted to become really still, in a cross legged position (like people who meditate) and my back became very straight, it just felt very good to be doing this at that time.. after a few moments Terence began talking about DMT and starting describing how amazing it was. a big smile appeared on my face, it felt very strange to smile. this was the most amazing experience i had in my life, and without Terence i may not have ever heard of DMT.

I wish he were still alive doing his writing and lectures,
but i like to think he is happy where ever he is right now

I actually had a dream where terrence was behind be telling me to become lucid, and guiding me to fly along a train track.

When I do mushrooms I am engaged by a voice of extreme wisdom. I'm not sure if it's Terrence but it is his voice. It might be an extra-terrestial using the voice of TM because it is familiar to me.
