I'm pretty sure this is possible with mushrooms at least for me. I see archetypal patterns on every surface including a sheet of paper. The only problems are the time it would take to trace something so complex and the possibility of the patterns shift in a way that's incompatible with the earlier pattern(doubt this will happen). Has anyone tried this or heard about artists who try this?

Pablo Amaringo http://guariadeosa.com/p...ringo/paintingsforsale/

Alex Grey http://alexgrey.com/gs.html

They both paint in an abstract, psychedelic style that is influenced by their dmt visions.

I'm sure there are tons more that paint what they see when on acid, shrooms and other drugs. Try it out though, pin a big sheet of paper to the wall next time and draw the shadows.

If you've seen the fox tv show 'Heroes' one of the characters is a painter and also a drug addict. He falls into this trance and paints what he sees in this other dimension and the paintings predict the future.

There is a lot of psychedelic art out there, including my own, all of it influenced by the kind of patterns and shapes we see while tripping. I think what the OP has in mind is something more specific than this-a way of actually tracing the real patterns, sort of like putting a sheet of tracing paper over hyperspace and getting an accurate tracing of the essentials.

I think this sounds like an amazing idea, but I think back over my own experiences- in a lifetime of drawing and painting, after hundreds of trips, why have I not done this?

Partially, I think it's because the patterns themselves are fluid and elusive. I remember looking at a blank canvas (this was at an Alex Grey workshop) while I was on about 300ug of acid... And what I was seeing was an organic version of those MC Escher angels and devils. It was a perfect division of space, and I wondered if there could be a way of nailing it down with paint. But as I looked closer, the boundaries of these shapes changed and the whole layout shifted and scaled in complexity. Without the pattern sitting still for at least a few minutes, the task of tracing it down seemed out of reach.

In principle, though, I think that with enough practice it should be possible.

Here's an experiment I've been meaning to get around to doing (if someone else wants to beat me to this, that's cool by me)

- sit down opposite a friend in s comfortable, well lit space. Take a photograph of their face.
- print the photo on heavy matte paper, tape it to a drawing board
- rerurn to original seating arrangement, bringing the photo and some pencils or pens.
- smoke 10-16 mg of DMT. Keep going until strong patterns appear on friend's face.
- draw them on the photo.

It may be that the patterns will appear on the photo itself, making it redundant to sit across from them. But I bet it's elusive, infinite and hard to get a really concrete visual grip on. That's why you usually just see art with patterns that are inspired by, rather than literal translations of, actual psychedelic patterns.

I've never tried on DMT but with other psychedelics and MDMA mixed with a lot of weed it was nearly impossible for me to draw anything I saw because of the fluid motion of the visions. What usually ends up happening is that I will "try" to sketch out what I am seeing very quickly and then hope that I can remember how I saw it when I am sober and can draw properly.

I've tried doing this on ayahuasca with interesting results. First let me say that I cannot draw for my life. I would doodle in class with abstract designs (long before psychs) and that was about the extent of it. One day about a year ago, I had the same idea as the OP because since I was projecting patterns here, there and everywhere, I decided to try and trace them on paper. Now, as expected, they are rather fluid and elusive, but here's the interesting part. Even though I couldn't trace the designs "as is", they still came out being incredibly fractal like nonetheless. Like it may look little like what I was seeing, but the fractal structure was still somehow preserved. Cool stuff Cool Gotta try this again soon.

ive tried this a few times with DMT..it is very very difficult! They morph ans shift before I can trace one completely so I can never really do it.
Long live the unwoke.

Got any pix of your attempts?

I'm starting to wonder if this topic doesn't deserve more focus. What if two dozen of us had tracings of actual psychedelic patterns to post? Look at them side by side, distill down to the common elements. Maybe a Sticky in the Lexicon?

I would be very interested in trying this out aswell the next time I'm dosed on something enough to see the patterns clearly. A thread where people could post these is a good idea.

it would be cool to try and 'trace' it with beads or little pieces of different color that you can use like pixels....
kinda like the huichol peyote art...
just a thought.

This Australian guy does some pretty trippy art.

He uses only one type of pen and spends sometimes weeks solid in trance, finding his way...

Check it, pretty rad and crazy ahaa

I did them with pencil on some colored folders so it may be hard to make out in a picture. I'll see if I can take some new ones. Gotta find those folders! Drool
