So without questioning the "realness" of the DMT experience, what do you guys think about the mentally unstable using DMT, or any substance like it? When I say "mentally unstable" I don't mean someone who is sad sometimes. I mean, someone who has gone through diagnosis, and has genuine mental sickness.

It depends.

It could help, or it could trigger even worse symptoms.

I wouldn't risk it, people who are unstable have enough problems as it is, DMT opens up a whole different layer to reality and with it comes it's own complications.

..my neurobiology lecturer at university (a long time ago) said this (of psychedelics and mental health)
"If you give LSD to a paranoid schizophrenic, then, for the duration, what you will have is a tripping paranoid schizophrenic. If, on the other hand, you give them Amphetamines, you have a real danger of triggering longer term psychotic symptoms."

..despite the discredited theories of some 1950s psychiatrists, there is no scientific evidence that DMT or other indole entheogens can induce long term or semi-long term psychotic or depressive symptoms..there is such evidence for other classes of compound (e.g. amphetamines)
there are also many factors in life (including streses and diet) which will worsen a condition..

I told a guy about dmt last summer. He was very interested and he wanted to try it.
I asked if he used any anti-depressants, he said he did. I said; wait 'till your off them and come back if you still want to try it.

Another time a girl asked me about LSD, I had some on me. She wanted some. I said: 'I don't give it away to anyone for I am responsible as the giver, it's a serious thing'. She freaked out on me, telling me a was greedy etc. I said: come back when you don't want it anymore.

So, it depends. Read the signals people give you. You are responsible as the provider.
Diagnoses are pretty useless when it comes to common sense.

DMT can be intense for a sane mind. It can be alot to deal with all in one shot sometimes.

Its implications can be overwhelming, it tests your sanity completely .
After an intense experience If you are a sane functioning person
it can make you sound like a person ready to be committed to the mental ward ,at least to anyone that hasn't experienced these realms themselves.

Clowns , jesters, elves, plastic people, aliens, entities, morphing fractals, stained glass domes, god,
alien intelligence right in your face staring at you etc etc....... you name it , its all there to experience
even if your not looking for it .........

Long extended periods of integration are necissary .

If there is any glimmer of mental illness brewing within a person
these things should be avoided at all costs .

The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.

I am bi polar with frequent panic attacks. I took a shit ton of LSA a while back and after I returned, my crippling ocd had vanished but I was more anxious and paranoid than ever. After a few more medium - mediumhigh doses of LSA I was able to control my mind and the way I percieved things changed more and more after each trip. Psychedelics can be hell if your mentally unstable but they can be good in the long run if used properly. Just remember; setting and dose is everything. I wouldn't worry much about DMT or psilocybin. I mean after all, you do DMT every day!

I clearly see why Theres no answer for me
Cause I'm falling asleep At the wheel of discovery
Chasing a dream that out runs every being You look soon enough
But you'll never start seeing

Confused erm, have you done DMT? I can assure you that it is not the case. Your're not "doing" DMT everyday because you might have a certain p.p.m. of it in your blood.

Uh, yeah... That's a pretty cavalier and wholly inaccurate statement.

I'm with Felnik. For anyone contending with mental health problems, I would strenuously urge them to avoid this.
