I have to second this. Since SWIM is unable to obtain Naphtha here his only option was to use Bestine from the get go. After a few extractions SWIM found the same result. Bestine seems to create really clean spice. Because SWIM has never tried Naphtha before, he is unable to comment on yield comparison. SWIM is very interested in giving a natural orange based solvent a try.

I bet you guys/gals live in CA as do I. <BESTINE IS THE SHIT> I had never done STB before only A/B x 2 which both resulted in only tan/yellow spice. If you guys are in CA and ware curious about A/B Xylene is still available in certain art stores.
is it - 7 hits or dosing 7 times ..... Either way I lost count along time ago, and Just type/Speak without a filter.... All of this is just one big tasty 'word salad'......

Ive never had any problems with Bestine its the only thing ill probably use because your FP is really clean and dosent need to be cleaned after. i have only resulted in pure white translucent spiky crystals
The only reason there is a reality is because our brain leads us to think so.

Heptane is a much more selective solvent than naptha. That's why it tends to pull cleaner and that's why it's used in recrystalization. It won't dissolve the less pure compounds though and they still contain a lot of alkaloid. Just like naptha won't pull the even less pure compounds that xylene will.
When I really want to go for it, I start out with a very selective solvent like heptane and work down to naptha, hot naptha, and finally xylene. That gives clean product at the start and then the less selective solvents ensure that nothing is getting left behind.
Usually though, I just do the initial pulls with naptha and worry about purification after I've gotten everything out of the bark. It's much easier to work carefully with the much smaller volumes involved.

this is the most recent post about this so i figured id ask here, being a noob i still need to ask questions but have tried to gather as much info as i could before asking. would i be correct in saying that since i also live in california and cant find naphtha i can use bestine as a substitute for the pulls?

Edit: so i just read a post that said the yields were higher when using naphtha but it could be just more impurities pulled, wondering if anyone could shed some light on this.

I've used both to pull using the Gordo Tek method and the crystals looked the same with either solvent, though I did use the Heptane for the fourth pull I think and by then the bark is close to spent, but still pulled 180mg which is a fair bit for the fourth pull with this method.
