I don't know why, but this topic makes me think of that closing scene from The Shining.

Remember the OP terms: whatever you choose, they take equal time. That being the case, we are talking about either a really long burn (no thanks!!!) or a really quick freeze (which gets my vote, if the timing is in fact equal). There is that moment when the chill gets to be totally unbearable, but once past that it's supposed to be quite tranquil.

I also wonder how much of the pain is about fighting the actual dying part of it. For someone who is accepting of the death part, like those monks, maybe the lack of struggle would make it less painful. But like Pup said, most of us don't have the mindset of those monks.

Absent the timing requirement, I'd vote for lightning fast combustion.

I would choose either over a long slow malignant cancerous death. But by the time the curtain call comes, we are usually short on choices. In the meantime, let's live life to its fullest!

I choose to burn!

It just seems like the higher energy choice to me, a molecular acceleration. Whereas freezing is slowing down energetically, solidifying.

The pain is irrelevant to me, this is death, I won't have to live with it just bare it.

I choose to raise my energetic state through combustion!! Twisted Evil

I would like to freeze, thank you....by the way...has anyone ever burned themselves while on DMT??? WOW, it really sucks. DMT is not something to give to a burn victim..

yeah and as a friend and follower of Yeshua I have to respond to this comment.....

"I've had very deep experiences, very real-like experiences in hyperspace (and dissociated hyperspace) with immolation leading to death. (precisely id like to be immolated by a bunch of Christians, Jesus, and their fearsome God)"

First of all, what do you mean by this? Care to elaborate?
Second of all were you aware that "Jesus" is a made up word and is no ones actual name.
Third of all most "Christians" wouldn't recognize Yeshua if they came face to face with him.

So do you mean televangalistic types? and if so why would you want to be immolated by Pat Robertson, Sarah Palin and the likes...?
And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not percieve the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, "brother let me remove the speck from your eye", when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye?-Yeshua ben Yoseph

no decision, freeze as most ppl said, i think anyone thats actually been seriously burned would agree, never heard of someone who was in a fire describing it as a mystical experience, i can imagine a agony filled hellish trip into the unknown, ur brain would prob fload with dmt but as with all psychadelics one of most important factors if not most in affecting the trip is set and setting, and being in the middle of a fire sounds like one really shitty set and setting. falling asleep in the freezing cold sounds much more peaceful

You make a strong point.
I would strongly prefer freezing rather then dying somewhere.. say trapped in a house fire...

But I still would prefer a combustion similar to the self-immolating monk on the first page.

And believe me, I know what its like to be severely burned

Not necessarily, there's actually a phenomenon called Paradoxical Undressing where at the last stages of hypothermia before death people have been known to strip completely naked. Basically what happens is their blood vessels have been constricted for such a long period of time to keep blood in their core, that the smooth muscles controlling the constriction of vessels run out of energy because of there being no blood to supply it, so the vessels all relax in a form of vasodilation. This causes all of the warm blood rushes back into the extremities, and due to the significant contrast in temperatures, it is theorized that this rush of warm blood may feel like a burning/overheated sensation, leading to the paradoxical idea of undressing to alleviate the perceived burning/overheating, thus killing them faster after stripping.

Most of the time the person freezes to death before that can occur, so I guess it would be tranquil, but every once and a while this happens.

As for whether or not I'd freeze or burn? I would say freezing.
A dramatic shift approaches...

How about freeze to death then cremation? Much less painful. Most people who die in house fires die of smoke inhalation/CO poisoning. I hear it's a much more pleasant way to go than burning, anyways.

I'd choose freeze, no doubt. Burning sounds terrible. Freezing wouldn't be much fun either, and more prolonged than being burned alive but the intensity of being burned alive sounds like it would be much worse than slowly freezing, going numb and dying.

It's simply a message... a message to the world (or anyone who happens to see/hear about it) that this is an issue that means so much to them, that they are willing to die for it.

Yeah I'm inclined to think that when someone is willing to pour petrol over themselves and light a match to express their unhappiness about a situation then they are probably very sincere and deserve respect. If I remember right the monk in that picture (can't remember his name) was protesting China's oppression towards Tibet. The problem with that method of protest is that it has largely no effect on the perpetrators, although it does raise awareness in others. Perhaps even some of the Chinese soldiers would have thought "hmmm... maybe we are actually the bad guys", but chances are that hardly any of the people in China got to see the pictures or hear about it.

More than likely the Chinese didn't get to see the videos or pictures from the self immolating monks from their government news media, however I think that word of mouth would make that travel like wildfire. "Did you hear about the monk who set himself on fire in protest of the government oppressing Tibet?"... I could see that being what spreads what happened.

Not necessarily, those monks seem to do it pretty calmly.

Those monks understand things about the mind and our world in a completely radical way, I mean they can just sit still and burn, I can't get over it.

I seen a video of someone who tried to set their car on fire and commit suicide after a long police chase, but it ended up being too hot so he got out of his truck and put a shotgun to his face.

But, back to the poll.. I'd rather freeze, as long as I didn't feel cold all at once, if I eased into it, I'd just lay back and jerk off as much as I could

Burning definitely.

The monks put A LOT of gas on themselves and when it is not windy (mostly).

You lose all physical sensation within seconds since nerve endings are immolated and the the brain is being flooded with signals. Before you know it your dead. Freezing would be torture and i hear at the end a lot of people strip all their cloths of because they feel overwhelmingly hot [weird?]
