so im wondering if anyone knows if "they" make a vaporizer whip (the rubber hose for the box type vaporizers) that is specially designed for vaping essential oils? also im about to buy some dmso to experiment with, im wondering in your personal opinion would it be better to get it from a "pharmaceutical grade" source that is in a soft plastic bottle or from some random company that sells it in a glass bottle (only answer about the dmso if you are familiar with its qualities..for its a long story) im concerned about potential leaching of the plastic because of the absorbative qualities of dmso...

i think i'm confused..why would you want to vape dmso?

I haven't applied it to the skin, since simply drinking a teaspoon of the stuff (diluted in a glass of water) is enough to make you noticeably wreak like vegetable oil for 24 hours. I just use MSM now.

and glass containers are always the safer bet with this sort of thing. In case you haven't heard- You also don't want your skin to come into contact with any foreign chemicals like weird perfumes/deodorants/lotions/etc before and after applying dmso, since it pushes things into cells

I had never heard of DMSO before, so I may be wrong here... but I assume OP's post was about 2 separate things, firstly about vapourizers and secondly about DMSO. I don't think he/she was talking about vaping the DMSO. I assume since DMSO is a polar solvent it could be useful for certain parts of extractions. DMSO is flammable isn't it? Probably best not to try to vape it Laughing

indeed...two seperate things...i know a bunch of people with the standard box type vapes with the rubber whip, im always looking for new and convenient ways to take in the spice and i know tech for vaping essential oils would accomodate the spice so i figure and attachment is cheaper than a new vape and if i had it i could just plug into anyones box! super convenient....i want to experiment with dmso as a carrier for different medicines, im aware of the sensitive nature of it..thats why im torn because the manufacturer could contam it in the production process too so i like the idea of getting pharmaceutical grade, it implies a certain quality standard...and they are the ones recomending that one uses the polyethylene!...the company with the glass does not say anything that ensures any quality standard...

I would say as far as the DMSO goes, you should ALWAYS go glass when you are buying chemicals. If you are going to use DMSO because of its transdermal applications, this would be especially important for you, as you want everything to be as pure as possible if it is going to enter your body (as in 99.99% pure). In other words, recrystallize.

Thumbs up

What is so interesting about using DMSO as a solvent for extractions? I'm not a chemist, in fact my chemical knowledge is none. But I read the wikipedia entry on it and let me quote:

Quote:

Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is an organosulfur compound with the formula (CH3)2SO. This colorless liquid is an important polar aprotic solvent that dissolves both polar and nonpolar compounds and is miscible in a wide range of organic solvents as well as water. [1]

Samples dissolved in DMSO cannot be as easily recovered compared to other solvents, as it is very difficult to remove all traces of DMSO by conventional rotary evaporation, one technique to fully recover samples is removal of the organic solvent by evaporation followed by addition of water (to dissolve DMSO) and lyophilisation to remove both DMSO and water.[2]

So for spice extractions I highly doubt using DMSO is useful. I dissolves more things than non polar solvents so you have to add additional purification steps. In top of that it says on the same page that it's toxic so you don't want your spice laced with it. So if you would use DMSO for extractions, it would require more work to clean it up or have a polluted end product. Seems like a flawed reasoning to use it as a solvent.

As far as it's use in medicine I don't see any use either. It makes a very efficient drug delivery system. However, why would you go down that road when you can take oral DMT, evaporate it or do topical application without using a substance with all sorts of negative side effects. Because having to wait out with chemical exposure the hours after use is a serious disadvantage(assuming that claim is true).

But that's only a layman's opinion.
