The way we conduct ourselves around others and how they interpret that is what defines us to other people. Communication and the words we choose are very important, since others do not have access to our feelings, attitude and heart unless we tell them. So what do people have to go on when they make a judgement about us? What we choose to show them through our language; verbal and physical e.g. body language.

The whole point of verbal communication is to intentionally convey meanings to other people. It is more than just talk, words or noise.

Of course I agree to a level, It's healthy to be respectfull towards others and have a good attitude, I just meant specifics such as slangs, etc. Everyone has a dialect, most have their own slangs and the english language itself varies greatly from place to place. I would refrain from judging someone based on the way they speak, though I guess on an internet forum it's all we have, which is why I don't take this too seriously, it's not human. I'm different in real life.

The point I'm trying to make is perhaps to 'judge' people based on the content of what they are trying to put across, not how they say it. A very wise person may use a lot of profanity, yet still have a great integrity and compassion for others. If people want to get offended by the odd silly word here and there, they have some growing up to do.

STS is a community for people interested in growing, preserving and researching botanical species, particularly those with remarkable therapeutic and/or psychoactive properties.

I do not have the vocabulary to articulate this particular musing at the current time...

The use of profanity is not necessarily a bad thing. It is that there is a time and place for it. I would hope that a wise person would know when to pick their moments for use of such words.

Here is an example: In the western world, on a sunny day perhaps, you are sat in the park with your shoes off, when people walk past they most likely would not be offended to see the soles of you feet pointing towards them. Do this in Thailand and you seriously offend any local who walks past. Would you tell a Thai person that their custom is silly and that they have some growing up to do? They could quite easily say the same thing back.

To you, swearing might not be offensive. But the Nexus is global, words can carry very different levels of meaning and intensity in different parts of the world.

The same applies for use of DMT street names. It all depends on personal context; some like it, some don't. Despite all our differences at the Nexus, we do very well at staying civil!

Sally xx

Yes, actually, I've known about that, I find it ridiculous that people could be so offended by that part of someones anatomy. But I don't think swaying into that territory will help here, slangs and curse words are utterly harmless. Nevertheless I DO keep it to a minimum, but I do not believe that such trivial things have any value whatsoever. Progression of our race as one entity comes from the acceptance of all, even in a diverse manner, getting offended by things like that is utterly ridiculous.
