Wow what a crazy story, i dont know who has heard this story yet but it was really cool to hear about.

I definitely feel that animals do have consciousness regarding what some say.
"You are an explorer, and you represent our species, and the greatest good you can do is to bring back a new idea, because our world is endangered by the absence of good ideas. Our world is in crisis because of the absence of consciousness."

Well that's just not true unfortunately but it's what most people like to believe.. It depends on a number of things, species, diet, mood, weather or not they have young with them.. Sure grizzly/brown bears and polar bears will want to eat as soon as they smell you but black bears will turn and run away damn near every time they encounter humans. I do a lot of back country hiking and biking, by this I mean far in the back country where you cross paths with more bears and cougars than you do people. I have never been chased or charged by any bears. I have been stalked by a cougar before, a few times actually but they will only really attack people when they are sick or dying.

Animals do have some form a conciousness level as well, contrary to what most people would like to believe which is that animals are stupid with no feelings or emotions. If a dog can sense your fear I would say its very possible that a bear or cougar can sense your fear or intent. I am cautious but I have No fear of bears or cougars when I am hiking. I'm usually more concerned when I take a rest next to a log and wake up from my nap in the woods surrounded by elk.. Now that's scary!

As for the lucky guy that got saved by the bear, the bear probably wanted to kill the cougar but could not catch it untill the cougar was preoccupied with other matters like eating hikers. Pretty cool story none the less, but frankly I'm surprised the bear didn't go after the hiker after finishing with cougar, seeing that she had cubs with her.

Great story,it could be the cougar had been stalking the bears for days and the mother took her opportunity
to kill or at least chase it off for good.

I have several pets and I live in an area full of wildlife (Bears, coyotes, moose, deer)but for my dogs im only
worried about them getting into the little animals like porcupines and skunks.I have seen my cats eating out of the same food dish as a family of skunks, and sharing food and playing with some raccoon's.

I have never been scared or nervous of walking in the woods as most animals I have seen usually run, sometimes
before I even see them. But as I get older and read things like this and other attack stories I now try to be more aware of my surroundings and just not be as careless.
