Hey! I've wondered the same exact thing since I started with mushrooms a few years ago! I see it as looking at an object with your eyes and focusing on the space between with your mind's eye. With transition or not, eventually the vision from your eyes won't matter much, if at all. The mind will be focused on this (empty?) space and will have room to allow for manifestations of it self. You may allow your mind to produce information relative to the infinity (like fractals) by observing things like clouds, stars, and any where that nature shows it's perfect nature of infinity (rolling fields, oceans, lakes, you name it) and utilizing the space in between.
After dissolving into the space around me on a wonderful DMT trip I began to wonder about the density of the "in-between" and now I'm at a new question. How much, if any, does the molecular composition of our atmosphere affect how we perceive our sense of surroundings here in the physical as well as the psychical realms? Can light bounce off our air in a way that procures certain wavelengths of the true form of light which may travel freely throughout empty space? Is our mind truly of a quantum nature and, if so, is this a reason that individuals whom reach within the depths of their psyche can experience the white light effect with all its energies?
I've put some mental energy into this understanding of this depth within our world and what's behind that (maybe another dimension?) Very glad to know of another who wrestles these very concepts I've manifested "alone" at an earlier time
