Well, it was only a matter of time until there was some "hip, edgy" publication became aware of Spice. I thought the experiences were described quite well, but it downplayed the potential profundity of the experience. Generally I like Vice, but when it comes to publicising something like this, great care must be taken. I saw no mention that it is highly illegal, or a potentially life changing event - it seems more like a theme park ride from what i read...

What I did particularly dislike was sentences like "Dimethyltryptamine is so hot right now." and "it can be said with absolute certainty that DMT Town looks very cool." and " For something that extremely mind-bending it’s really easy." - I can picture lots of hipsters swarming to amazon, extracing their own, smoking unweighed doses and scaring the living poop out of themselves. I don't like the thought, but a large part of me thinks that this is / was inevitable.

And yes, don't get me started on that Tristan Davis (the name sounds familiar?!) douche bag.

Fxxk!

I think some of the nexians should at least try to talk some sense to the people at the magazine. I'll try too.

The pictures made me almost puke.

That one girl is pretty cute though...

Well, it is sad that hipsters have to destroy everything but that's just the way they are...they use what's underground and turn it into the mainstream. They are the gentrificators of culture if you will. You can't talk sense into them. What they are doing is already what makes sense to them.

You can't do anything about it. You can't stop the development. The golden age is almost over.

This sucks. I've always found Vice's intentions questionable.
They just spread ideological dirt. Their sarcasm is too much
mixed up with serious information.

It seems to be very Vice to be deadserious, truthfull &
informative the one moment and then very sarcastic,
rediculous & nonsensical the other.

This bopolar style of writing articles really disturbs me.
Am I alone in feeling VERY uncomfortable when people mix
truth/seriousness & sarcasm/nonsense too much?

Perhaps the bannishment of MHRB, Acacia and other high content
DMT plants might be just around the corner, or perhaps this will
blow over soon and no one will be talking about DMT in a month anymore,
except the people in communities like the Nexus, The Shroomery & Erowid.

Obli - I agree, that Sarah girl is kinda nice Pleased back to the topic at hand... I think you might be correct about the 'golden age' almost being over:

DMT becoming a mainstream thing is not a good thing IMO, did you notice the article said:

"I recently came across some, shared it with my pals, and talked to them about their trips..."

Oh, so he just stumbled on some while out walking the dog then? Sweet! There are implications in this sentence:

-The author bought it, and what's more, made that public knowledge. not good.

-The author openly admits to distributing it, not only that, there are photos of people ingesting it, and HIS NAME IS AT THE TOP OF THE ARTICLE!!! Dumbass. and what's more:

-All his hipster mates and readers will be out looking for it (you really think these guys will bother looking up an extraction TEK and doing all the work themselves?!), meaning:

-That's right folks, there is going to be a boom in black market sales of extracted product.

- which we all know is right about the time when LEO start sniffing about, and certain plant products become impossible to find.

All it will take is a couple more articles like this, and a few more kids thinking they are dying and BOOM!

Time to stock up on MHRB maybe? Sad I have a feeling it is going to be very 'HOT' this season Crying or very sad

Purgemaster: Let's not worry here.
Hopefully some negative feedback to the people at the magazine will at least do something good.

Anyone who thought DMT-Nexus or anything else could stop this ever since Noman published his article in a 2006 edition of Entheogen Review (and a number of other key events, including "Enter the Void," ) is more delusional than I have ever been.

Rather than seeing this as tragic (which it kind of is) perhaps we need to re-frame this as a yet another huge potential opportunity. One coming at a time when Nexus is growing and expanding in incredibly positive directions.

An opportunity to bring more minds into the fold. An opportunity to STEP UP. NOT as police officers or morality officers or political correctness officers. To STEP UP and recognize that others may have a DIFFERENT approach and attitude towards this molecule than we do, but to NOT see that as automatically something to CONDEMN.

Instead to STEP UP and EMBRACE this phenomenon as a HUGE opportunity for more (Nexus) growth as well as a chance to bring even MORE creative and brilliant minds into the fold as well as provide a TREMENDOUS service of EDUCATION hand in hand with HARM REDUCTION.
"But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."

I agree. The experiences are pretty well put forward, but the overall flavour of the article is misinformed. A couple of the pictures made the people smoking spice look less than desirable.

I guess this is the best way to look at, and approach the situation. We're an intelligent, respectable bunch. As the Nexus grows, so should our general attitude as a result. Though there'll always be people who enter into things for the wrong, or should I say different reasons.

Peace

Jackasses, all I see is a crap load of evidence for the crimes they've committed, along with a series of blatantly ignorant statements.

Men, back up, Officer Donut has this one on his own.
Mad, bad and dangerous to know.

I would be glad if the people at the magazine would get arrested for the article, but I'm not so sure it will happen.

It would be possibly the best way to avoid further articles like this to be published

I wonder if 'Bread Smith' is a Nexian?

Tele - I'm not going to lose any sleep over this article, but I do think it is stupid on a few different levels - namely the ones I outlined above...

Pandora - You may be right. I hope you are. Maybe this article will spawn a cultural revolution the likes of which mankind has never seen before. The thing with this 'potential' is that it has the potential to go both ways. This Nexus project is still in its infancy, and still relatively under the radar, what we do not need (IMO) is a catalyst that demonizes these sort of explorations before society fully understands them. In the public eye we may end up no better than meth cooks.

I wonder, did Noman's article in the Entheogen Review (which sounds to me like a highly specified publication, having never read it) have pictures of him performing the extraction, promoting it like this seasons must have set of sunglasses / iPad / what ever? I seem to remember the version I read / used on erowid being very carefully written so that the reader was under no illusion that this was an illegal and potentially dangerous practise. I see none of that in the article. And 'Enter the Void' hmmm, I don't remember that painting a particularly great picture, what with the sleazy drug dealer / incest and what not.

The Nexus is doing a great job, but it is just a small island of hope in a vast sea of uncertainty. I have NO issue with others that have different approaches to me, I love diversity, innovation, etc - but I certainly DO have an issue with DMT being touted as "so hot right now" Rolling eyes The last thing I want to see is some trend undermining the brilliant work being done here, and in any other communities striving to make DMT a legitimate practise. DMT needs to be publicized carefully, with facts, and not overly glamorised. Sure I see opportunity, but it can go both ways. Articles like this certainly do create a fork in the road...

The great majority of the "unenlightened" (sigh!) out there feel the exact same way about YOU and your activities here.

Time for everyone to "level up" on their attitudes imo.

No news here, but if there's something that can be done to avoid further articles like this, then I think it should be done for the benefit of proper respecful DMT users(and even to hipsters who might face fear of dying for example when they are seeking something totally different, high in most cases). I won't elaborate what is proper and respectful here, but it doesn't include hipster magazines, that's for sure.
