Hey what up NEXUS!!

This is pretty much my first time posting here in the extraction forums... either way, sending everyone out good vibes

So I tried Lazyman's TEK a few months ago and ended up with some orange-ish goop on the bottom of my pans. I thought it was a complete fail and ended throwing up most of it out, just saving a little of the residue w/ half-mind to check it in a while. When I remembered it days later, it had dried out .. and I sandwiched a few specks between some parsley with some very surprisingly pleasant effects. Too bad I had thrown the rest out though!


Now I did not follow it exactly (used plain tap water, only two baking dishes, did not stir for 40 minutes by hand I used an electric mixer for about 10-15 minutes).

The video called for 150g MHRB, but I did not have a scale on hand so I googled quickly and used flour as a conversion substitute, ended up that I used about 1 cup of powdered MHRB which should be around 150g.

The first time I pulled the naptha off (with a turkey baster) (after letting it settle for an hour or two and separate into two distinct layers) I yielded some very clear looking naptha.

Discouraged slightly (thinking it should be yellowish or cloudy) I haphazardly threw in "some more" MHRB and a spoon or three of Sodium Hydroxide.

Pulled the second batch of Naptha, cloudier this time. Into a slightly smaller and deeper glass baking dish.

3rd pull done as well.

Now this video called for a shitload of Naptha, I dont know why, but I ended up using like 3 liters of naptha which took, oh, 2 days to evaporate lol.

Woke up this morning and FINALLY PULL #1 is relatively dry, what do you guys think?

Am I done, just scrape it up? I am a little worried because of the amount of Naptha I used. It was VM&P Naptha though, which from what I understand is ideal.

Pull #1 (more crystals) is free of naptha but the pan is still sticky. I'm not sure what the best way to go about getting the crystals off is..

Pull #2 is almost dry, crystals look a little bigger too!

Use a razor blade or similar instrument and scrape all your crystals together, fine chop them all up and then do at least 1 recrystallisation on all your crystals.

thanks DeMenTed.. ya think this is really necessary? only saying that cause I used up all my naptha and have none for a re-x... hoping it doesn't take as long for the crystals to precip out of the re-x as it did for the main extraction

The same naptha should be alright for a re-x.

If they look fluffy white, just redissolve in IPA and let that evaporate, then scrape up the finished product. The IPA re-dissolve just ensures that there are no naptha molecules trapped in the crystal structure.

The re-x doesn't take long because you use such a minimal amount of solvent. I would say it is necessary becase it looks like you may of got some of the basic mix in with your pulls.

Thanks guys. So now I have three choices:

Use some of the naptha I have left over that is still waiting on evap from pull #3

Dissolve the crystals in IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and evap

or #3 someone suggested I should re-x in 100% heptane, as it is cleaner than naptha.

i'd just reuse the naphta you have but you can buy some heptane if you want

I agree, a re-x would be necessary if there is any brown gunk in your dish.

*Top Tip*
To avoid using up so much naptha, I would suggest using less of it in the first place and freeze precipitating. Evaporating that much naptha seems like a waste to me when you can re-use it quite a few times.

Guess I will reuse some naptha I have (lazy)

Took half a shotglass of it out and set it aside. I will heat the naptha by submerging the shotglass partway in some hot water for a few minutes.

Gonna scrape these suckers up and dissolve dump em in the hot naptha, swirl, cool, and throw em in the freezer. Wait for crystals to form (how long?), then dump em the naptha out.

That sound about right?

ok so I heated half a shotglass of naptha and got the crystals in there... left with a bunch of gunk on the bottom of the shotglass.

OK, I was advised to:

1) Add some more naptha, which I did (added approx 50-75% more)

2) Put it in a sealed glass jar, swirl the crap out of it, which I did

I can still see some sediment in the center of the jar.

Alright.. after swirling/heating the naptha and sediment, I threw the jar in the fridge.

I'm slightly anxious at this point.. to watch my entire 1st pull yield, all those beautiful crystals dissolve into a bit of naptha..

Planning to take it out of the fridge in a few hours and transfer to freezer. Already cranked fridge/freezer to max.

After you heat the naphtha you need to decant it from the dirty stuff at the bottom. If you just throw it back in the freezer without seperating the solvent from the grunge you didn't accomplish anything.

should I take it out and re-heat to decant? I figured since you dump the naptha after the crystals precip, it wouldnt be a big deal to leave it in there.

I would reheat and decant. The point is to get the DMT into solution so it can be seperated from the non/less-solubles. End result = cleaner product

after only 30 minutes in the fridge, it appears crystals have begun forming already and sticking to the sides of the jar

Alright so, I have it on good word that I probably used too little naptha in the first place so:

1) I took the jar out of the fridge, re-heated it, added about 30mls -40ml naptha
2) Also added a few crystals I didn't see at first from pull #1 and added crystals from pull #2

In the pictures you can see the sediment in the solution (the dark area) and after I decanted and got rid of most of the sediment.

BTW Decanting just means pouring stuff from container to container, in hopes of separating out the layers/sediment/liquid etc.
