I believe you should treat others how you would like to be treated, but I do not think the universe will conspire against you if you do not.

I believe in circular reactions to ones actionsWink

But I wouldn't think about having good or bad karma stored. Just go with the flow...

Karma to me is just cause and effect.

I can cause bad things to happen in my life, or good things.

It's just another color in the universe.

Yes, baby
Karma is capable of backreflecting your outward stream of energy.
Circumstances which are focused upon, are able to reflect into the future - good and bad, reality itself is neutral.

karma is one of those things that's obviously true: you become how you act, and what you are influences what happens to you, and on and on. It's a very simple and obvious concept. You can't "not" be yourself, and so you will act as "yourself," and those actions will place you in situations where you will receive actions/conditions that are typical of that place--thus, what happens to you is a reflection of what you do.

Where people make it fanciful/silly is in adding to it the idea of some cosmic balance sheet.

Yes Karma is entirely real, though may people don't entirely understand it.

Peace.
If your religion, faith, devotion, or self proclaimed spirituality is not directly leading to an increase in kindness, empathy, compassion and tolerance for others then you have been misled.

I personally do not believe in karma. I believe you make your own path in life and decide your own fate. I beleive both luck and karma are ideas drawn up by people to help explain their fortunes either good or bad.

But then again there is no way to prove whether it exists or not, and becuase I am always open to new ideas to add to my currently existing beleifs, my idea of karma may eventually change as well.

All things I say are complete and utter ramblings of nonsense. Do not consider taking anything iterated from the depths of my subconsciousness rationally and/or seriously.

Theres no need for a cosmic balance sheet because we are that balance sheet. I believe we give ourselves what we think we deserve, often subconsciously. And of course others will react to us in a way that directly reflects our attitudes/actions toward them.

Sure do !

Last time I managed to put my hands on some L tabs and DMT I basically gave it all away to friends for free. A few days later I got dosed for free several times at festivals, that's just one exemple out of many others.

As someone said above, treat others like you want to be treated.

I want to believe people who do good get good in return and bad get bad. But no one ever knows. But if someone does something bad to someone else, it might piss them off and they will do bad to the next person. What I do believe in though, is if someone does bad often enough, then they will have bad come back. Like someone who beats people up for fun, its only a matter of time when they meet someone who will win and beat them back. So the bad will catch up to them.

Do something good, make someone smile and they will in return make you smile and you FEEL good about yourself. Thats your karma reward. I do this all day working with the public. I feel great when I make people smile or laugh.

As a system of social control? It kept tibet a mideval fuedal state up into recent history, keeps india one of the most rigidly casted societies around.

That part of karma, which most western peoples seem oblivious of, is something which I'm not too big a fan of.

My name is Earl, however, talked about the Carson Daily variety of karma...this is what the this thread has thus far focussed on, and yeah, that stuff's cool in my book. Plus Earl had a mustache.

As a solipsist I could believe in it by saying that as I create reality, a phenomenon like karma could exist. In another way, as a solipsist, I can see it being real in someone else solipsist bubble. So yes it is real if you believe in it, if you want it to be part of your models. For me it is not real cause I don't want to complexify my model of reality by adding eldritch stuff into it too much :-)

I'm not sure about "karma" but i believe that society is a machine. When we cause frustration or anger we are are causing friction between cogs(not sure if cog is the right analogy) but if we cause happiness we are lubricating them. Like any machine if one cog runs bad so do the rest which is why I try not to do things people would consider "bad Karma." In the end everything you do to someone else you are doing to yourself. Hope everyone is all lubed up Laughing

Directly, I don't think that karma exists. There is a very specific definition with karma saying that it something is bound to happen when you do something related to it. Plainly, what goes around comes around. But I don't think that it is not automatic but rather something that is voluntary.

Something is bound to happen, and there is a good way of balancing it. So it shouldn't always be good luck on your side.

The word karma holds a universal mystical connotation to it in modern society. Much like other phenomena observed by primitive humans it is a religious explanation of a real world phenomena that they didn’t possess enough information on to correctly decipher. Karma is simply an aspect of human morality. This morality is designed to allow us to be able to live together in societies. Karma is our inner police officer, one we cannot escape from.

When a person commits an act that goes against their moral code they feel remorse for this act in the form of guilt. As a result subconsciously they endeavor to punish themselves for this wrong doing. If you do something bad in society and are arrested and punished for it then your moral structure feels that it has paid for its actions and therefore you do not feel the effects of negative karma from it. Many a time have I seen on the news where a person who committed a crime had stated after having been arrested that they were glad to have been caught. The guilt can oftentimes be far more painful that paying externally for your actions.

When you commit an act and were not caught or punished then there is no effective way of releasing this guilt. As a result your moral structure takes it upon itself to punish you in an attempt to get rid of said guilt. However this is not an effective action and it has a tendency to punish you again and again. As you go thru life these events build up on you and until you find a way of getting rid of this build up you can find yourself wallowing deeper and deeper in self misery. In the spiritual world it is called building up negative karma.
If you don't sin, Jesus died for nothing.

to me karma is "that choice that leads you to yourself". Bad karma leads to a you you are not happy with.
