I use ableton live (and many VSTs) for music, and reason, and a mastering program (AAS). All kinds of stuff really, but I'd like to experiment more with making images for the releases to come. I also have GIS software that I don't really use right now. Some of the fractal generating programs seem cool. I'm just wondering whats out there, what people are using here. (and if some one could tell me how to post an image into a thread that would be awsome )

there was a thread house started a wee while back asking what peeps used: https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=25638 I was playing with the reaktor templates on the jazz mutant lemur, oh man so amazing! going to get an ipad in a month or two just for the lemur software its great, got it for my phone but its a bit small. I use ableton and maxforlive addon which has loads of cool devices but the sounds I was getting from reaktor the other night was just insane plus so many cool colours LOL Not been doing much production at all recently bits and pieces really been focusing on Traktor the last few months as im going travelling and want to dj wherever I am, great dj software and so easy to use but the first thing im going to buy now when I get to where im going is an ipad for they reaktor templates, its going to be glorious! My friend had a program for the mac that done video stuff he got it on torrent then they caught him and he doesnt want to pay the £300 for it, forget the name but sure there are folks who know a lot more about that side of things, just I was impressed with it, though I am easily pleased sometimes lol

There's software for anything you could imagine... So it's really a matter of what you're trying to do. For imagery, Photoshop is the most versatile and thorough image manipulation tool you'll find, but it won't generate anything from scratch unless you have a fractal plug-in or something. I use a combination of Photoshop, regular old drawing or photography (which can then be transformed a million different ways in Photoshop), plus a 3D program called Bryce. It's way obsolete and in no way am I recommending it- the current best bet in that department is zBrush, which allows you to sculpt with a paintbrush. I also use Apple's Final Cut Pro for video editing- amazing software suite, and not too difficult to learn (I bought a legit version which came with 2500 pages of very helpful literature). It's a perfect tool for editing music videos because it allows for unlimited layering and micro-detailed control. I also use a book layout program called Adobe InDesign- clicks together with Photoshop and the two act like a single program.
My wife produces music and used Live for a long time until she picked up Logic... Her main comments are about ease of use and the quality of the sound libraries- she feels that the Logic sound palette is way better, deeper, fuller with more punch- after using it a while she tried Live again and found that it sounded tinny by comparison.

I agree with your wife some sounds in logic are excellent compared to ableton, with ableton your having to mess around for a while to get fat sounds but in logic you get great sounds straight away. Using both would be ideal im thinking. Only played logic a few times right enough maybe it would do alone, still some great stuff in ableton like Mu it's amazing

I'm an ableton person, I've never tried logic but I've tried reason and cubase before I found ableton. I find ableton much more intuitive and easy to work with, also for some reason it uses less resources on my computer than cubase does and i find it runs a lot more smoothly. Photoshop is great for image manipulation, I've made a few interesting pictures with that (mostly manipulated images of myself). If anyone is interested in some great fractal generating software then check out Apophysis. It's an open source program and is by far the best fractal program I have worked with. -ะฏ ฮ โ ฮฉ L U T โ Ø N-

When i changed from hardware sequancing to software sequencing i went for cubase. I will be trying ableton soon though, i'll be interested in seeing which i prefer.
