Is there a distinct difference between pure Spirituality and Buddhism or do you view them as the same thing?

I think this depends on what you think of as "spirituality". The essence of Buddhism is a method to end suffering. Is this spiritual? I dunno. "Spirituality" is a vague and esoteric word, as is the word "God". Buddhism's focus is practical, not theoretical or esoteric.

Like empty said, it really depends on what you define "spirituality" as.
I focus mainly on Buddhist ASPECTS as opposed to following the religion strictly. (Ex. Meditation, ideas of Nirvana)
and also incorporate ASPECTS of Hinduism (Chakras, Mantras, Om, Etc.)
All in the mix of incorporating entheogen's for mental benefit/glimpses into said states.

I think practical, theoretical and esoteric go hand in hand in Buddhism and they're usually interconnected in any aspect. In response to the OP, I don't think Buddhism and spirituality are mutually exclusive. You can be a Buddhist who never has a spiritual experience or you can be a very spiritual person who's never studied a word of Buddhism (and therefore not a Buddhist). Spirituality is a more broadly defined category of thought. To me, spirituality refers to one who seeks beyond the physical/material plane, but perhaps even that definition is too specific or not specific enough. "Science without religion is lame. ..echoing Global, in my view Buddhism is a philosophy and psychological system involving ritual, Spiritualism is a broader word which may nor may not include what some buddhists experience..
also, Buddhism is most commonly an institutionalized hierarchical system, resembling church systems and orders, though it can be practised 'yogically'..

Everything is an aspect of everything else. it's the perceive-r who fuels any feelings of exclusion from the micro and macro environment and our context within it. there are many paths not just 1, but essentially they all lead back to the same place (singularity ) so ultimately there is just 1 outcome, but it's constantly redefining it's self until it reaches it's own pre-destined culmination. another recent thread on Buddhism you may enjoy reading --exploring perceptions of what a buddhist perspective of enlightenment may or may not entail. https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=29529

ab381 wrote:Is there a distinct difference between pure Spirituality and Buddhism or do you view them as the same thing? Why would you ask a question like that? Somehow the question is weighted with the bias that Buddhism encapsulates spirituality itself. Spirituality existed all over the planet long before Buddha showed up. As soon ancient hominids could realise that they were alone in the universe, transferance of their "angst" took shape in the worship of things , animals or elements. It was an evoltionary process that continues to this day. Imo, Buddhism is a very small cog in an enormous wheel.
