When weighing out spice how important is an accurate scale? The nice mg ones seem to be fairly expensive can i do without and just eyeball it?

Whats your experience or suggestions?

Some people need to know exactly how much they are vaping,

while others simply pack a bowl and vape it until they leave this reality.

I would suggest you to start with a scale, so you'll able to get an idea of how potent is the stuff

...As far as smoking spice ontop of a bowl I just eyeball and see where it takes me. after packing a few hundred bowls I find it easy to do. usally its just enough to completly cover the herb im smokin it on topped with a little more herb to sadwitch it. I like to have a little extra rather than not enough though. Not like it goes to waste. But I did start out with a proper scale so i know what to compare it to give or take....

A scale has become pretty important to my flights, as you can see in my current tag line. My initial year or so of spice use was by eyeballing it, which is good for getting dmt into a person, but hard to get repeatable doses. There is a thread here about a cheap ($30) milligram scale, and I got one and it is great! In fact, I'd been using that little lovely with great success one night, having had 3 wonderful experiences in a row from 25 on up to 40 mg. While coming down from the last trip I wanted one last toke to finish off a great evening's worth of travels. And since I only wanted to do about half of what I'd just done, 20 mg or so, eyeballing would be fine, right? Especially when my hands are still looking pretty warped, sure, I can just eyeball it, right? Wrong as hell. Most of a year later I am still trying to work that trip out and am still unable to resume significant spice flight.

So, I'm a big advocate for using scales, every time.

i didn't used to use scales and did have some unexpectedly strong breakthroughs. they were certainly rewarding.. but yeah, its a good idea to weigh your doses to accurately judge your state. this is why i love changa. a nice flat cone breaks me through with ease. you want fairly accurate scales too for dmt doses since they are in mg

if your going for a breakthrough every time then I'd say no scale.
But if your one of those people that do 'light' doses or whatever then maybe you want one.
Even still experimenting would still probably work.

Do you need a scale when you smoalk some dmt? Not really. You can eyeball, you can experiment, you can get the hang out of it and not have too many problems, just the occasional crazy trip. Not too bad.

However, when you decide the make some changa, or some ayahuasca, or some anything else, you're going to need that scale! Eyeballing a 1:1 by weight pile of dmt and caapi leaves isn't easily done, and I doubt I could've seen the difference between 2 and 4 grams of mimosa when I first started brewing aya(logues), probably couldn't tell the difference now.

So... do you need a scale? Right now? No.

Might you want to look into one? That's up to you.

Can't wait for my scale to arrive! I think eyeballing is ok if you want random trips of breakthrough / sub breakthrough / killer breakthrough / loop breakthrough / death birth breakthrough.

I myself want to study it and see if a method can be worked out to travel to the same spot again using the same dose and maybe adding the tone generator to trigger the direction (tone) and volocity (weight of dose).

As BananaForeskin said scale is useful when mixing aya or changa things but it is also very useful if you want to experiment with different administration methods. For example, I once eyeballed intranasal dose. Just rolled the small vial open, on the glass and up the nose through a paper straw. BIG MISTAKE; A REALLY BIG MISTAKE. I was not sedated, I was bouncing around the place trashing everything that was not bolted down, had really big bruises after that one and all of the body was more or less sore.

Get the scale. The cheap one can do it fairly good enough but really it is still kind of playing with fire as it tends to give inaccurate readings that differ from measurement to measurement using the same sample. At least with my one. Also after few years or so of using the scale the want to get a really good scale is really strong as it just would be so much easier. If you are going to do this thing more in the future, a good scale is really good to have. Also to measure for example fumaric acid etc.

If you live in the states then you might get lucky from ebay or something and find old used and surprisingly cheap analytical balances that measure 1mg accurately. "Analytical scale"/"analytical balance", got this advice from drugs forum scale topic where they discussed how to weight down accurately on the mg level. Other than that you should search around and really look into what type of scales and in what price ranges there are for 1mg measuring. Better to be safe than sorry imo.

TL;DR With scale you can do measured doses and to go higher safely.

I ordered mg scales at the same time as all the things for my first extraction, they took forever (well over a month) to arrive so I had the DMT extracted before I had scales. Being impatient I just eyeballed the dose, that worked fine and then even after the scales arrived it seemed like a pointless hassle (for me) to weigh doses when I could just load up a ton of it and then hit it til I couldn't hit it any more. That was 5 months ago and I've still never weighed a dose. I just use the scales for weighing yields and also ingredients for changa.

I think perhaps purity and method may have an impact on whether it is better to weigh it... so using waxy Jimjam in the machine I have a fairly large margin of error to play with, but if someone is using very pure crystals in a GVG then I think the difference between the right amount and too much may be much smaller, meaning weighing it would maybe be necessary.
