John Stossel's Illegal Everything

Quote:
The producer of Stupid in America, John Stossel, broadcasts another outstanding documentary "Illegal Everything" which shows how nearly everything is (or may soon be) illegal - including lemonade stands, raw milk, drugs, fast food, prostitution, recording police, and more.

Watching this caused me a great deal of anger.

But I love John Stossel.

The part about drugs was entertaining though.

Cheers, it's quite promising to see something like that on fox news.

Stossel is about the only good thing they have going for them, despite their own anchors' open hostility towards him. They wave him off like a crazy uncle, as they do with the Pauls.

I thought the story was good journalism. My favorite part was with the guy who was all proud about implementing some 4000+ new regulations, and when Stossel asked how many regulations have been repealed, the dumbfounded look on that guy's face was priceless!

Seeing all the people have their lives ruined by government and arbitrary laws that support corporate greed,
-The people that got fined because they can't build a house on their own property
-The fisherman who went to jail for 8 years for doing what he had been doing the entirity of his career
-little girls being terrorized by police for having and innocent lemonade stand
-taxi cab drivers not being able to make it on their own because other more succecful companies lobbied so that they can't get started, essentially monopolizing the taxi business

Seeing all that was very upsetting, and it's only getting worse.

Agreed, I actually forgot Stossel was on Fox, I wonder how long he'll be there since they recently let Judge Napalitano go when they canceled Freedom Watch.

He too was the only decent people on Faux News.

The question is why it did not make you angry as well ? Are you not paying attention ? Can you not see what is going on around you ?

America may be at quite the "low" right now, but it's always tried to get away with pretending it's something it's not...always

I would give just about anything to get out of this country. I breaks my heart to say it but it's not just the government it is the populations unwillingness to fight for our freedoms. People in this country have become so ignorant and lazy. They just want to lay around and wait for someone else to solve their problems. There is no strength left in the hearts of man.

Issues of personal freedom from government intrusion has always been a heartfelt interest of mine--which includes ideas about where to live. There's a lot online to read to find out more (I like the Sovereign Society as a source, for example), but I think that few sources of information and discussion about this issue have seen the issue clearly--because they don't realize that there are two conflicting parts of it.

Your freedoms are regulated by:

1) The LAWS that are in place
2) The process used to ENFORCE the laws

So, on the one hand, people can say that the US is great because of its constitution and bill of rights, but has considerable law enforcement presence--while on the other hand, some other countries may have quite restricting sounding LAWS, but either don't make the effort or don't have the wherewithal to ENFORCE them.

Thus, I think one has to ask whether, in the modern world, one is freer in a place with "good" laws but extreme methods to enforce the laws (like video cameras in public, internet data gathering and analysis, inability to have a bank account without extensive ID, etc.), OR an oppressive regime, such as some African countries, where the government has little ABILITY to enforce laws and behavior on citizens (or at least those citizens who have the means to either stay out of government's way--or buy government representatives off when the need arises).

There are certainly MANY places in the world where, on a local level, if people generally accept you and you don't hurt any of the locals, it's basically a libertarian situation--you do as you please.

I've had friends who insist that SE Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, and to some extent Vietnam--and maybe now even Myanmar/Burma if things keep changing there) has the best combination of not too terrible laws plus not much effort and expense made on enforcing them.

NOTE: Which is NOT to say that it isn't MISERABLE when you DO find yourself on the wrong side of the law in those places. And that's the conundrum. Still, the consensus is that if you know how to stay under the radar, you can have a pretty free life in those places.

Lol.. I thought he meant that John Stossel was making him angry. Yes all those things do make me angry, but I'm kind of over the shock of it all...as sad as that is... It's a desert out there in terms of awareness...

The youth are looking somewhat promising though... We just need a spark. That one drop that in the solution that crystallizes everything....

Maybe I'm just being optimistic though.

Judge Andrew Napolitano was the other good thing that Fox had, but he was speaking too much truth and was a Ron Paul supporter...so they canceled him. Surprise....not!

I watched the above documentary, and was pleased at how well it was done. If you're an American and have ever lived outside the country this is common knowledge how over regulated every aspect of life is here. I used to get in arguments with friends when I would come back, saying that we are far less free than people believe...and would get the response, then why don't you leave the country for good then! RAH RAH USA!!!!!!!!!! Ahh, to be clueless about how the world really works once again. Though I don't think I'd puke the 'red pill' back up if I could...
What, you ask, was the beginning of it all?
And it is this...

Existence that multiplied itself
For sheer delight of being
And plunged into numberless trillions of forms
So that it might
Find
Itself
Innumerably.

Something else that's relevant: a montage of clips talking about all the recent bills going around in recent years -
Patriot Act, NSARI, SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, PCIPA, Drones, HR 658, NDAA, EEA, NSTIC, Real ID Act, F.A.S.T., Militarization of Police, Misdemeanors for Children, Police Depts in Schools, Private Prisons, Martial Law.

I thinks it's well done, a great message!

All Americans are suspected terrorist

The big issue is that everything is unraveling as resources mainly oil begins to dwindle and stifles the evolution of new nations that are looking to join America and other first world nations. Furthermore the US has to take a step down luxury wise as we have been living beyond our means for a very long time. Not only do we need to take one step back and live at the worlds norm but we also have to pay for the excess that we have enjoyed for the last few decades. That's with interest mind you. Then there is the insane level of corruption that our country is see.

If Americans actually knew the situation we are in they would panic and everything would collapse. The only way to slow this inevitability is to hide it. Keep them stupid so they wont see it coming. Cut off communication, the internet is the last bastion of uncontrolled news. This is a serious danger. It represents a limitation to their power. Washington doesn't like things to exist that is beyond their control.

It sucks for them not to be able to cheat and hide it. It is a serious issue with their power structure and regardless of what anyone says those in power will NEVER give it up willingly. Not a single politician is out to protect you, not one. They all have their own interests in mind they all know that what is to come will doom the masses they want to be on the side of the very very few who make it out of it. They are sacrificing you to save themselves. What is going on in Serbia, soon it will come to a town near you.
If you don't sin, Jesus died for nothing.

Their are some pretty ridiculous things in the video. The reason this is shown on Fox is because it fits in with the rights narrative of wanting to deregulate everything. While many of those regulations are silly and should be removed in my opinion, the majority of lobbying for deregulation is concerning things like banking and the environment. Banking the the environment should be heavily regulated in my opinion. The economy self destructing a few years ago was a direct result of deregulation of the banks under Clinton and the Bushes. This seems a bit propaganda-ish in my opinion, they show a few scenarios in which regulation is ridiculous so they can influence the voter that all regulation is bad.
