I understand that DMT is not orally active because of MAO. I also have read that it is soluble in ethanol. It has been suggested for some other drugs that dissolving in ethanol could allow rapid absorption into the blood through the mouth and GI tract. Ethanol also has the ability to absorb through the skin somewhat.

Has anyone tried dissolving DMT in ethanol and either holding sublingually or rubbing on the skin? Could any active DMT make it to the brain this way without being destroyed by MAO?

I've had limonene that was saturated with DMT spill on my skin in excess and caused very definite DMT effects. Limonene is bad for your skin, don't do this.

I have been meaning to test its solubility with coconut oil and see how active it is this way, since coconut oil is good for skin. I have a hunch you can make DMT massage oil this way would be very nice.

As for ethanol, I don't know. More tests need to be done.

Well anyone that has some spare DMT, I Think I would put probably a gram into 30ml and see if that dissolves in a double boiler. Then apply coin sized amounts over a large area of skin or so. Maybe I'll do this soon.

Interesting. Avoiding first pass metabolism is helpful with a lot of substances. As my user name suggests, I'm into aromatherapy as well. Ethanol skin preps have been helpful in getting some interesting effects from EO's in the past, so I was curious about DMT. This seems more appealing to me than smoking. Also, because of certain meds that I must use, MAOIs are a no no. I don't possess any DMT at the present time, or I would try it myself. Let me know how it goes.

would love to get a nice massage .. go through a nice journey of the body.. and then a nice journey out of the body when the spice soaks into the skin. the person giving the massage would have to be alright with tripping a bit themselves ;P

Very interesting... Well I know that you can insufflate dmt to avoid going through the stomache and you can get effects, I have tried with effects.

So if it was dissolved in ethanol and not filtered out in the stomache, it should theoretically go straight to the dome baby! Seems like it would work, just with a large amount.

I tried soaking some cooking spices in ethanol (see the "Absinthe like effects" thread for details) and they produced very noticeable effects. I hope this could be a way of getting DMT active without the need for MAOIs. May go plant hunting and will let you know what happens.

this sounds great. a strong addition of harmala would be great. i hear harmala is more hallucinogenic when absorbed through the skin. did anyone here know that the myth of the flying carpet supposedly came from middle eastern rug makers using syrian rue as a red dye and half naked sweaty people absorbing it through their skin and getting a sensation of flight. i see a hyperspace lotion in the making.

Understood... But maybe the (possibly glycol)ethanol : DMT would help with absorbtion through the dermis. I think it would help thin the skins natural oil and help the DMT drop out of the cocconut oil resulting in a faster rate of DMT profusion. Remember we want to get an active dose before the tolerance spikes up. I love this idea. Sounds like a cuddle puddle must! We'll be trying it

Icy Hot sells a gel version, where the only active ingredient is menthol. Menthol is great at lowering the skin's defenses and allowing active ingredients to absorb. So why not dissolve the DMT in ethanol and mix with icy hot gel on the skin?

Don't use regular icy hot - this contains methyl salicylate, which can be toxic at high amounts. If you change the makeup of the formula, more will absorb, resulting in methyl salicylate poisoning (which can be fatal). Make sure to use the gel with only menthol as active ingredient (it's 16% I think of the blend).

good idea with the menthol. You can also just buy menthol xtals and mix it with the ethanol/dmt.

house, I saw your thread on topical DMT application - I'm so glad this worked! You've inspired me to use coconut oil with essential oils, and I've gotten some very interesting results - specifically, try with some lemon oil, let's just say it's an interesting experience!
