I got a bunch of cuttings today from a popular ebay vendor..

One thing that confused me though that i would really like some input on though is this:

Upon removing the cacti from their wrapping, i noticed a whitish powder, on the side of the box, dusting the surface of the cacti, and seemingly expecially on the underside of the cacti where it is healing and the cut was made.... This powder you can scrape off with your finger and there is a decent amount of it..

So does anyone have any idea what this powder is? I really want to know...

My thoughts are it could be rooting powder, or maybe even lime or some other type of powder the vendor may put on the underside of the cut to encourage healing.... This is fine i think i have no problem with this if this is the case.

Or maybe the cacti were stressed from the shipping and the cold, and (forgive me if i sound stupid, i am a cactus newb) they are somehow excreting this powder??

Or lastly is it some type of cactus mold? I dont really think this is the case because the cacti look very healthy....

The powder seems concentrated at the bottom where the cutting was made.... Has anyone run into this before? In case it helps i got my cuttings from a good ebay vendor..

Any info would be most appreciated! I should be ready to plant here within the next few days!!!

Edit: i just read the thread about cactus and calcium chrystals. but heres the thing, in the pic at the top of that thread what he found looks like little white balls, and the stuff on my cacti is a dusty powder, definetly not defined little balls like in that pic. Is this still what it is or just some variant in these?

Any help is most appreciated, im jsut starting out with cactus.

you are welcome,
i've never used sulphur myself, but i'm not really in an environment with high relative humidity.
