It also seems pretty likely that more humans will venture into hyperspace this year than in any previous year in history

This is the time to really find out who you are and enjoy every moment you have. Take advantage of it.

I think that an increase in awareness of DMT will have both it's benefits and disadvantages. Benefits include that more people will be able to hear about it or experience it, disadvantages could include that with more people trying it there will be more people trying it who have no idea what it is, what to expect, etc. and this could result in a lot of bad trips or difficult experiences. This could lead to giving DMT a bad image in the media, resulting in harsher laws and regulations. On the flip side, more people would be able to experience it and appreciate it.

Meh, we had similar discussions about dmt becoming mainstream 3 years ago yet I don't really see it moving towards this direction. Most certainly many more people have tried dmt since then but that doesn't mean going mainstream.

Sort of like death or black metal started from underground, got to a golden age with many more listeners and then regressed but never really became mainstream.

Although, that was never going to work.

DMT definately now has the ability to reach those who are looking for it. Whereas on planet Earth in the days before the internet, you really had to know a guy.

I was at a dubstep show in Austin about six months ago and I saw this kid across the bar wearing a shirt that said, "Run DMT," but in the "Run DMC" black red and white logo style. I thought it was so awesome I bought him a drink. Come to find out, Run DMT is a Texas-based dubstep duo... a pretty good one, too. This kid probably had no idea why I liked his shirt so much. But I know you people do. Cool Cool Cool

I sincerely hope not! I don't think the mainstream is ready for it. Look at the backlash when Ecstasy & Salvia became mainstream.

Well with population growth going the way it is, you can most likely say that about a great majority of things.

true. But it sounds so cool to say man! Very happy

Besides the biggest spike in interest seems to be just in the last half a decade. So i think the internet is a much bigger contributing factor than population growth

Too true.

Also, has anyone noticed a drop in goths and a rise in hippies among the youth of today?

Is that just me? Smile

I have noticed that also and I have noticed less and less of the Emo people out there.

I like what I am seeing out there today, at least in my neck of the woods.

While it will have its advantages and disadvantages, i think it neccesary for western evolution.. or at least psychedelics in general. spice does scare a lot of people who go into it with the wrong attitude, but as it gets more popular, we can all do our bit to spread awareness of its sacred properties and more and more people will experience those properties. I think its healthy for the world to discover dmt in the current state its in

I know all my goth friends turned into hippies!

Methinks DMT may never become truly "mainstream", but it does seem like a lot more people know about it. I've heard ayahuasca come up in conversation at parties, conversations that I didn't start! o.O

This has happened to me too. My eyes light up, and probably won't be able to shut me up for an hour Laughing

That doesn't seem like a very relevant comparison.

It might be very critical for the evolution of Spirituality in western culture. We have become too pragmatic, of course there are going to be disadvantages with having DMT be more known. But I think its our duty to try and lessen those disadvantages. Spread the respect for DMT!

How so?

In the 80's MDMA was made illegal in the UK from the media backlash after a handful of people died, in the 00's Salvia was banned in several countries after all the youtube videos and resulting media backlash.

Now of course, DMT is already illegal, but it's production, at this point in time, is easy because the materials are easy to obtain. Now imagine if it entered the public consciousness and became the concern of tabloid journalists and worried mothers, MHRB and other plant sources would be almost impossible to get hold of, mis-information would be rife and we'd all be sad.

Call me a cynic, but the mainstream is an idiot, and for all it's power and glory, it will take lot more than DMT to change this. Sad
