I grew a few dozen Poppies over the summer this year.
The only reason I did so was to get some raw opium for use in chronic pain management – after several broken, shattered, and dislocated limbs I live in a state of permanent pain, or so it seems. I’ve tried a lot to help me cope, but lately it’s just too hard keeping up a good exercise regime and looking after my body.
Hence my interest in opium. I know the risks associated with opiates all too well – a few of my friends have gone down the dark lonely road of opiate addiction never to return. But I feel with the right attitude and a wise head one can successfully use them to treat chronic pain or even recreationally every now and then.

Anyway it was a helluva job lancing those buggers. But I got decent sized amount in the end after cleaning it up a bit.

I smoke a match-head sized ball or 2 when my bones start to ache terribly. I use a machine type vape and it seems to work well and wastes very little.
I have been doing so for a few months and have not had cravings when I don’t smoke. I think the key is not to get into daily habitual use, and if you feel yourself slipping into a dark place put the brakes on.
My wife does monitor my use – even though she has smoked it once or twice with me, she also knows the dangers of opiates.

I have not smoked it while on any other substances and doubt I will. For me it’s purely a medicinal thing, with a few perks so to speak – House mentioned visions of people and conversations – I get this a lot – apparently it does diminish with habitual use so I reckon I’m managing it well as I still get these visions if I smoke a bit more than I usually do.

As with all substances addiction/habitual use can occur – even with psychedelics – use your head, your heart and know when to ease up. Some things aren’t as self regulating as DMT.

I wouldn’t recommend oral administration as dosage is too variable. I tried this once in the beginning and had a few very scary hours after dosing too much.

Be safe!

I use a lightbulb....or sometimes atop a bed of semi spent ganja in a regular pipe. Usually I drink a small amount of tea, only enough to get a small effect, then I smoke/vape after that. I make the tea with the flower pods that have already been lanced. Lanced daily, until they stop oozing. Lance at evening, scrape in the morning. After the pods cease yeilding I collect the heads and save them.

Make no mistake, raw opium may seem safer becasue it is natural. It aint. It is more sustainable for the earth (pharm cos harvest and extract in rapine fashion) and you are not giving money to cartels or pharm companies (they are cartels too) BUT raw opium is VERY hard to kick. Harder than vics or oxys. As hard to quit as heroin, I've read. With raw Opium you get the full spectrum. And it feels good. Damned good.

Kratom is great for pain, similiar buzz too and you don't get the cravings nor the withdrawls. I never believed the hype about kratom, but it's the real deal--an awesome substitute for opium.

This year when my poppy harvest is in I am giving the collected materials to my girlfriend to dispense to me with wisdom. I envy you primalwisdom--a matchhead will no longer do it for me.

Obvious opium is an OPIOD, and with that comes several inherent dangers. But I am curious...

Do any of you feel that it has a psychedelic quality to it? I have read of "pipe dreams" and the effects of opium, and they seem like they all have a quality of psychedelia to it, whereas most **pure** opiates (herion, oxy, etc) only seem to exhibit a singular high. Again, this is just what I have gathered from misc. reports and books and whatnot. Opium is natures own specialized mixture of a whole boatload of alkaloids, so do think this gives it more complexity than singular opiates?

Thoughts?

^^IME/O, the term 'psychedelic' in reference to opiates/opioids is probably pushing it a little far, be this with opium or derivatives/synthetics, but its possible to reach a state very much like hypnogogia/hypnopompia.If the dose is right (and this requires some familiarity with dosing and resultant effects), I have found myself nodding and then speaking out loud in answer to a conversation thats been taking place in my head Embarrased Laughing !! The 'God of Dreams' is rightly called Morpheus.....
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

Making laudanum and infusing some herbs with it (mullein for instance) still seems like a good idea to me, that way the vaporizer
won't be clogged by the raw opium.
