Imagine a world without free knowledge.

For more than a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia. Learn more.

So they say they are raising awareness, what if this is a test for them, in a way it would be a form of censorship, And if they can sensor one thing, then i am sure they can censor other things.

And why would you imagine that?

i have no idea. i mean there was a whole thing about internet censorship not that long ago.

I honestly had really no awareness of the wiki thing, and what it really was, im am not saying that its bad or anything just pondering that thought.

What is this to save themselves from it or something^

Most corporations are run by greedy people that care little for more than quarterly profits. Then there are organizations like Wikipedia that exist for reasons of principle. Google is still a company, but is also run by people with ideals on how technology should be an open resource (compare the android platform to the iOS platform).

^ this. Google is ran by people that believe in a world where information is open and freely available to everyone. Sure, Google is making money, but look at HOW they are doing that. They try to earn their money through advertisements instead of selling products and by giving software away. Of course is stopping SOPA / PIPA in the interest of Google's future, but they also believe that our freedom is important.

(Large) corporations are entities that with no morality nor memory. Morality can however be inserted into these companies through two ways:
- By laws and regulations
- By having CEOs and managers that function as the conscious of said corporation. Google is trying to do this.

Of course, doesn't mean that Google has it's own shady side. But in a protest like this we can use whatever help we can get!
