I just came back from the cinema and I saw a trailer for a comedy starring Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd, and a slew of other well-known actors. A scene including ayahuasca can be seen towards the end of the trailer, and as usual, it is depicted as threatening. I immediately thought to myself that plenty of folks will go to see this film; one can expect to see a surge in DMT awareness. Whether that's a positive or negative thing can be disputed. "'Most men will not swιm before they are able to.' Is not that witty? Naturally, they won't swιm! They are born for the solid earth, not for the water. And naturally they won't think. They are made for life, not for thought. Yes, and he who thinks, what's more, he who makes thought his business, he may go far in it, but he has bartered the solid earth for the water all the same, and one day he will drown."

I sometimes wonder if the #1 stereotypical suggested property of psychedelics, thinking one can fly, has every actually happened?

It's just a comedy, folks. I think you underestimate people in that they literally think that it is common to think you can fly while on psychedelics. Sure, some people may think so, but most serious and a little educated people I've met doesn't. Perhaps that's just my corner of the world, though... Besides, even more people doesn't really care at all, and probably won't go out of the cinema thinking about ayahuasca and how it makes you think you can fly.

Everything is ingrained in the mind, even the most trivial things. To the common man/woman, who is not well-versed in the truth of the psychedelic experience, the perpetuation of misinformation will continue, concerning the topic when brought forth. If she is that far out of reality that she thinks she can fly how did she get up that tree? Maybe they will all be too busy working out their plans to go and join a commune in the countryside?

This is like asking where the news anchors got swords, horses and bolos for the street fight in Anchorman. PK Dick is to LSD as HP Lovecraft is to Mushrooms

How many people believed that drinking alcohol will make you see pink elephants after watching dumbo?

Where did they get their swords, horses and bolos and why do news anchors not have anchors? Do they keep them hidden or something? I have yet to see one.

Watching that....it made me want to start an intentional community. Well, poly amory, nudism, playing guitar and drinking ayahuasca are all cool things in my book, so perhaps I am predisposed to liking the idea. However, by and large the clip did not seem like it was casting communal living or the aforementioned alternative lifestyles in a bad light. Sure, they had fun with the culture clash of up-tight new yorkers trying to be comfortable in a hippy environment, but that's just comedy. The ayahuasca scene...I don't know. But DMT is entering the public's consciousness more and more. I wish it wouldn't, but it certainly is. The "I can fly" bit however is utter garbage. At this point I am not in any way convinced that this movie shall cast undue negative attention towards DMT nor Ayahuasca. "Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods." Albert Einstein
I appreciate your perspective.

Alcohol is part of Western culture, though, so people know the real effects from personal experience. The same cannot be said for ayahuasca. "'Most men will not swιm before they are able to.' It's a Jennifer Aniston movie. Nobody cares. Sometimes I believe that this less material life is our truer life, and that our vain presence on the terraqueous globe is itself the secondary or merely virtual phenomenon.

I actually know someone like this. My friends wife. She will not do psychedelics because she is afraid she might jump out the window and try to fly! She has stated this as her reason. Even though I trip with her husband often and nothing even remotely like that has happened. Its the MeICNU

It seemed like in the trailer they ended up liking the commune place and will probably never go back to the city OR the experience will change them for the better. At least thats what I got from it. I've seen that movie "Our idiot brother" with the same dude in it and it was about an organic farmer who is so nice he seems like an idiot and it had a lot of marijuana references throughout but it ended up making him the hero and everyone realized that they were the idiots and he was just a good honest person. It seems that actors don't usually take too conflicting roles in each of the movies they star in....well most of them anyway. We will have to see what happens but I think if anything it will show aya in a neutral to positive light. 'Little spider weaves a wispy web, stumblin' through the woods it catches to my head. She crawls behind my ear and whispers secrets. Dragonfly whiz by and sings now teach it.'
