So today i went out past Kaanapali, around Napili. Took a few pics of some plant life, that Ive not found around my house. I'm still on a quest to locate local species of which contain extractable alkaloids!! I have a basic idea of what I'm looking for but am by no means a botanist. Any knowledge or info would help me out! I've already learned a lot about a good majority of the species around my house and am now traveling to different parts of the island to further my knowledge and fine tune my eye for such species!

So my journey for today was to visit a labyrinth way out by the Ritz. It was kind of a meditation trip, and while i was out there why not check out the plant life along the way and on the way back? Which is almost equally as soothing, and peaceful. This labyrinth is extremely hidden, not marked, mapped out, or shown anywhere. I was lucky enough to find out about it b/c a family member had been shown its location years ago, and now i was ready for the trip! :-D It was really awesome!

Me walking the labyrinth, in deep thought!

And the species in question...

And...

And I see these all over, now that I'm looking...

I love exploring local flora. The plants in Hawaii are much different than those in my parts, but the pictures are a warm welcome on a cold winter day...

The very last pic looks like an Albizia species... Just a guess from the flowers.

Great Pictures yeah you can find some species there. The one that you have is either a mimosa or an acacia for sure, but I used to live there and there are some species that are very invasive like that one you found there, I am aware that Acacia Confusa Grows there, and i am not very good with Cacti identification but if what you found is San Pedro, id be truly jealous because after identifying many species on the island, i really didn't consider any of the cactus life.

If You are still there, Head down to a beach that is called Big Beach, Next to it, you have to climb over some rocks, and on the other side is what they call Little Beach, Every Sunday There is a Drum, Circle and Fire dancers, definitely worth checking out, ask around and i am sure someone can direct you.

And you you happen to go Get some pictures.
P.s. as a heads up it is a nude beach so don't be alarmed. Pleased

Awesome! Thanks DoctorMantus!!
I'm familiar with big and little beach Smile I was a little surprised the first time i happened to stumble across little beach! lol I never knew about the happenings on Sunday. What time does the drum circle start at? that is something i would definitely love to check out!! Seeing as I'm in Maui Meadows, its just a hop skip and a jump to the beach!! Would the camera be permitted on Sunday night? I wouldn't think of breaking out my camera on a normal day at the nude beach for obvious reasons! But if Im able to get pics on Sunday I will definitely take some killer pics!

Upon my quest to try to find, and identify a species of which contains N, N dimethyltryptamine... which i have still yet to do Sad I have noticed about 3 different types of cactus. So then i started observing both cacti, and plant species together. I figure if I broaden my search I couldn't fail in the entheogen department completely! Very happy

As far as the acacia confusia, they are on the island! I've seen a whole lot of them on the road to Hana, past Hana, and scattered all over the eastern wetter parts of the island. Ive even seen quite a few over in Ulupalakua Ranch. But since my scooter has been in the shop i am kind of stuck in the Kihei area, with the exception of the occasional trip with family elsewhere, and on those trips I'm not really trying to gather species, but rather taking note as to where i will return on the scooter and collect my stuff! Smile

With most of the species on the island i would need to gather root bark, is this correct? Or would branches and leaves be adequate?

Also just to double verify, seeing as there are countless species of the acacia. This is the acacia i am looking for, correct? I cant touch this one b/c its at the Iao Needle. Its just a pic for reference and to make sure I'm looking for the right tree!

Nice pictures! My one piece of advice is beware that cactus, it looks somewhat like a type of euphorbia which are poisonous and can even cause blisters if you come in contact with the latex.
I'm no expert but I had one that looked similar to that.

Yea its Lots of fun, Sometimes the drum circle is vibing and sometimes its not, it's hit or miss i guess. You could show up probably like 5 ish around whenever sunsets. And yea i know what you mean, some nude people get sensitive and think you are picturing them, but if you are shooting, the sunset or fire dancers drummers they tend not to care.

You very well could of seen confusa, but do not get it confused with Acacia Koa because that also grows everywhere too, and it is the wood the use to make a lot of things including boats, etc. etc. and confusa Bark, leaves, and stems all contain something i believe.

Not a problem, Have fun and be safe my friend. Do not be afraid to meet people most of the islanders there are friendly to what they call Howly or a foriegner, which is basically a white dude. And if you happen to see an older man, has a beard from what i remember unless he shaved it, he is usually shirtless and wears blue spandex pants.

This guy works for someone to live on there land, and if you want to start a conversation with this guy he can tell you some things, He has some frequency that opens and does not stop, you will usually see this man just talking ranting about anything, what he sees around him, what he knows, and sometimes he wont be talking to anyone, a tree maybe, but he speaks loud enough that anyone around can hear lol.

BTW, I can't comment too much because I'm stoned, but I don't think that's san pedro, it looks like a hedge cactus. Trichocereus versus cereus peruvianus, not the same thing.

That doesn't look like a San Pedro cactus. The ribs are too thin.

I love Hawaii. Stayed at Napili Point for 10 days during my honeymoon. SOOO nice

It is very hard to find species of that sort, on the island, unless it is cultivated. Imo you will have more luck finding mushrooms in a cow field, but don't take that completely serious, because i could be wrong, but from the time i lived there i did a lot of identifying, but ask around, and see what you can find. I know that some other islands like big island has a few different caapi Strains.

But do not be discouraged from my post i have faith, you will locate something.

If you don't also know make sure not to leave the island with any rocks, you will have bad luck, it's basically respect for the land, or as they call it The Aina.

funny you should mention that! Laughing So far the only psychedelics I've been able to locate were in fact mushrooms in the cow field right past Ho'okipa. I'm sure you know the place. Its the field with nothing but a tiny little building/structure in the middle of it. They were alright, not they typical fungus that i prefer. I would say I had a very mild trip off of 5 grams. Maybe I screwed up the drying stage, i was in a bit of a rush. lol BTW that cow field has ALWAYS been plentiful, Ive visited there quite a few times Very happy
pics for reference...

I'm not discouraged at all! Sometimes you find what your looking for, sometimes you don't. Such is the nature of life! It only means that when I am able to locate my source, I will forever know where to go when I'm here, and when I do finally find what I'm looking for it will make the joy and satisfaction, as well as the trip, that much more powerful and enjoyable!

I'm very familiar with the rock removal superstition! As I am fairly superstious, I WILL NEVER USE A WHITE LIGHTER!!!! Anyway, on my first visit, many many years ago, I was with my parents and my dad told me about what would happen if I tried to remove any rocks, specifically lava, from the island. I believe he actually used a Brady Bunch episode to reiterate how "true" it was. I spread this knowledge to anyone who is willing to listen and follow the rules!!!

Sigh, and as for tonight... I really wanted to go to the drum circle and fire dance on little beach, but I'm sick as a dog! Sad Woke up this morning feeling like I was hit by a train. Ive been addressing it all day, trying to feel better... but no go. I'm bummed too because I'm leaving next Sunday, and wont be back for a few months. But thanks to you, now I know all about it and will be including that in my next trip!! Hopefully I'm able to kick this cold so I can get back on my nature walks! I'm dying to go Hana side again, this time with a lot more Information and knowledge. My last nature trip to Hana was about 2 months ago.

Have you gone through the Bamboo forest? i am sure you have, What about Twin Falls? very nice hike and nature. there is so much i could tell you.

One thing you really should try to do if you haven't find your way to Jaws, Only locals really know how to get there, it like and off road, dirt road that drive through the fields, and January is actually one of the highest surf months, sometimes waves get 20 to 30 ft over there, so if you can get there it would be worth it.
