Hi everyone, I know how much we all love rules around here.. Okay maybe not so much. I'm starting this thread because I am finding an abundance of lengthy signatures in peoples posts. Although I enjoy seeing original signatures and such, I find myself focussing in on these signatures and getting distracted from the posts themselves. Its hard sometimes when scrolling through posts trying to see the comment when it's only one line and the signature is fifteen lines long. I know I am not a mod, nor do I want to be. I'm just trying to bring this to people's attention so that they can maybe have a little respect for the people reading the threads. I find being distracted by a signature about as amusing as reading a post with 100 swims in it. Does anybody else feel this way or is it just me? I've been on other forums around the interwebs where it is a general rule of courtesy to keep the sig short and simple.. If I'm wrong about this then my bad, this is just my simple opinion. Cheers and thanks for reading, C_S "I was going to make a machine, but after reading here in the Nexus, everyone makes it sound like trying to smoke spice without a VG is like trying to have sex without fully formed genitals..." -- Pup Tentacle.

You have got a good point there. In the past we already removed the images from the signatures for the same reason. I guess it can't hurt to make them a certain maximum length and leave the big size text unavailable. Kind regards, The Traveler

The Traveler I like this idea but I also know how much we all hate seeing new rules pop up.. That's why I wanted to bring it up as a suggestion. Great Idea, Coastal_Shaman. Thank you for bringing this up. It would be nice to limit to say 4 lines and a certain number of characters. Mine was a little long at one point and too noticed how distracting it was. "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." -A.Huxley

When I make a post, I put in allot of thought and effort. I had the conception it was not too offensive in size. Now I see this is a problem. I do not have a problem changing my signature. Perhaps my signature is inappropriate. How should I change it? Since I may be forced to change it, what will be the new maximum character length so I can work on it now so the change isn't so abrupt? Discussion? I= SWIM = Not Me. The I AM I Does Not Exist, and is Referenced to SWIM Who Is Not A Friend I Never Met, Nor Hallucinated While Imagining The Is-ness of Suchness That Is SWIM Who Is Not Me, Myself, Nor I As The Expression Of Non Dual Aspect of Non-Dual Reality Subjectively Denied By Swim, or accompanying Me-Anti-ness'es. =) All Credit Goes To The ANTI-SWIM'ness of SWIM's cousin's room-mate's uncle's deceased cat's in-law's second removed nephew's aunt WHOM authored SWIM's 2000 Year Old Desert Scribblings from a drunk rabbit in the Serengeti desert found in an insane asylum under water, on Easter eggs, crucified by the on fire pagan music listening christian maniac from India running around believing he was Jesus repenting this bush he called the Acacia tree; So I Heard from a bum who claims to be SWIM, But I Forgot... And Again, "I" Refers To Someone Who Is Not Me.

I programmed some limitations for when you edit your signature: * A maximum of 750 characters (my current signature is 522 characters) * A maximum of 5 lines * A maximum font size of 5 For the people who have an excessive signature I would like to ask them to change it to something less intimidating. Kind regards, The Traveler

Oh man.... I am so stoked. This is one of those little bits of awesomeness that just makes things a little better in tiny increments....many many times a day. Do you know how many times you've read any one of our signatures? I just scan them now, its like noise my brain just filters out anyway ( i wonder how many cycles that process takes up). I have that deep nexus compulsion, I come here and read all the time. This "hide signatures" switch could clear my brain up so much. I can then use that free brain space to feed the hyperspacial anticipation generator... in 4D! I will sleep easier tonight just knowing the idea is out there. can we crank the font size up for the "reason for edit" box to 30? All posts written by Madcap should be regarded as fiction.
