A friend of mine did ayahuasca which seemed to tigger a heavy period with intense cramping...

What should we do?

I'm a little worried.

Can you guys give me any advice?

Is it ok for girls on their period to take Ayahuasca?

As long as it happened around the time that it should have happened I would not be concerned. If the pain does not go away like it normally would then also there might be some reason for concern. But there is nothing as far as I know that could cause any serious problems with a woman's reproductive system from using ayahuasca.

I found this posted in another discussion through a Google search:

"While in Brazil I asked the Shaman I worked with what his opinion was about women drinking on their moon. He told me that traditionally women did not do so because the extra power that they hold during their cycle could create extremely intense journeys. We are very open during our moon and I suppose that it was believed women could attract spirits into them like a magnet. (Where's the credit for being able to control such instances?)
Since I was to begin my cycle during my two weeks of drinking I contemplated drinking or not. His response was that I could drink, but to be aware that aya would increase my blood flow.
The day I started my cycle I drank, grateful that my flow was at its lightest. I kept checking for an increase in blood, but I was fine. My journey was deep and intense, but no more than before. Although I was "super" attuned with my fellow voyagers.
Two days later I bled like never before. Soaking through super-duper plus absorbancy tampons and pads. One night I woke up every two hours covered in blood. The bed was a mess, I had to shower; finally I "slept" on top of many towels. It definitely affected my integration process. I'm not sure if I would drink again while on my moon."

Harmala alkaloids cause uterine contractions. It is highly contraindicated for preganat women as it can cause a spotanious abortion.

However, it sounds like your friend was about to have her period anyways, the harmine probably just brought it on with a vengance. Remember soaking more than 1 pad an hour means a trip to the hospital, otherwise a heating pad, back rubs, and pamprin/midol might be in order!

I assume asprin and midol would be safe to take 48 hours after doing Ayahuasca?

Thanks for all the help guys.

I would avoid the asprin as it might thin the blood and make for even more bleeding.

48 hours, yes. You are pretty much safe to resume normal life 48 hours after ingesting harmala alkaloids.
