Has anybody ever heard of hamburger bean seeds? (Macuna beans) They actually look like little hamburgers.

I came across a few of them on a beach this past week. I did a search and learned they are drift seeds that come from the Amazon and other tropical regions. Apparently during heavy storms they fall into rivers and get washed out to sea. They can spend months to years out in the ocean until finally washing up on land thousands of miles away.

There was very little information I was able to learn about them other than they contain 5-MeO-DMT, N,N-DMT, Bufotenine as well as L-dopa. The precurser to dopamine. Apparently they also have a history of Shamanic use having been made into snuffs as well as an ayahuasca admixture.

How is it I've never heard of these before?!?!

Anybody have any experience with them?

Yes I remember reading about these strange purple beans on erowid before, but since they have
completely slipped my mind again. They really are Wonderbeans.

Too bad they only contain NN, 5MeO & Bufotenine in trace amounts. But that is with mature seeds.
Perhaps younger seeds are richer in NN, 5MeO &/or Bufotenine? We'll need more phyto-chemical
information on this plant. Here's a list I found of the chemical contents of mostly only the beans:
!!!
Look how rich the beans are. What a plant!
Here's a far more extensive list of contents of this bean: Velvet Bean contents
If only we could find an acurate, detailed bio chemical analysis of the chemical compounds contained
in these beans and their average &-ages.

I bet if they were dried & ground to a powder they would make good fertiliser & alkaloid boosters for Psilocybin Mushrooms,
DMT- and other Tryptamine producing plants.

I find this fascinating. seems like it could be perfect for that.
how would seed powder actives compare to the powdered plant material?
I've seen it super cheap online.

Well the beans I'm referring to are not purple. They actually look like little hamburgers. Apparently there are over a hundred species of Macuna seeds. I read somewhere that these particular ones are used as an admixture to ayahuasca and made into snuffs as well.

I was surprised I couldn't find much other information on them.

Here are some pics..

Assorted Drift Seeds Called "Sea Beans"

Mucuna urens

Quote:
according to the "Flora of Guatemala" by P.C. Standley and J.A. Steyermark (Fieldiana Vol. 24, 1946), "male" and "female" seeds from another rain forest liana Mucuna argyrophylla are carried by natives to prevent hemorrhoids. Those that sink in water are called "hembras" (female) and those that float are "macho" (male). They are also called ojo de venado (deer eyes) and "sea beans" because they often become drift seeds.
Had he more quickly realized just who they were,he would have shown them more respect.Had he tried harder to fathom their brilliant minds,he would have taken more of their teachings to heart.Had he more clearly understood the purpose of their being,
he would have more vigorously tried to assist them. They were truly honorable; he was sadly prejudiced.
They were exceedingly well informed; he was grossly ignorant. They were totally indefatigable; he so often, and so quickly, gave up. Still, for many years there was a strong inter-species alliance between the Eleven-Eleven of the Half-way Realm, their Seraphic Associates, and their flesh-and-blood friend, a common mortal. Much was accomplished, many profited, and, there’s only one regret...They could have achieved so much more...

Yep. If you go buy over the counter L-Dopa supplements they are all (or almost all) an extract from these beans. They come from the Muchuna Pruriens plant. I have been curious about their potential for a few months now. I learned about the seeds diverse alkaloid content simply because I was curious what the bean my L-Dopa was made from was all about. Smile

According to Wikipedia the leaves of the plant actually carry more DMT alks than the bean itself however. It will be to see some extractions attempted at some point. It's a cool little find for sure!

Well I was thinking about planting them and growing them this spring. Its too bad I don't live in a tropical place (I found them while on vacation) from what I've read they can grow really big.

I figure I have nothing to lose trying to grow them and see if I can keep them going during the winter months indoors.

Maybe do an extraction on the leaves that grow if I get enough of them.

Worth a shot I guess.

Wow I have never seen the hamburger ones before! I have two kinds, one from India and one grown here in the US. Both are fairly awesome but have different effects and taste and looks from each other! I really love these little beans!
