Got one year and change in so far off the bottle. Thanks to DMT. One puff, and no more bottle (actually I quit just before I began my first extraction and I sort of made a deal with the molecule: i.e., I will devote my self to personal evolution and alcohol plays no part in that for me). Quitting drinking was actually no big deal at all, now if I could get this damn energy drink monkey off my back . . .

I've got 3 weeks left until my year mark, then I plan to resume enthegens while staying of anything harmful. I haven't put any substance other than caffiene and nicotine. That next trip is going to be an interesting one I assume, and yes that energy drink habit can kick a sober persons butt.

Raw cacao can give you a good boost, as can yerba mate.

How do you guys manage social events...

Been almost a month until a Christmas party (how do you not drink there?) where 1 beer was supposed to be sipped over the entire event. Needless to say that never works... Even 2 days after a hangover the sober state of being is nowhere near the same, its like entire month of healthy life-style prior to that gone to waste... Total lack of courage towards the spice too, feel like its gonna kick my ass really hard if I decide to smoalk even a little Shocked

I personally do not attend gatherings where people consume alcohol in large amounts. You'll never find me at a christmas party, or a cocktail party, I'd rather sit at home and read/write. Its just the kind of person I am. Being around it really just kind of disgusts me, and drunk people are so annoying. I don't like the way it changes people. When I see it face to face I just want to run- it just seems so fake.

my friends will drink when I hang out with them, but I never partake. I am content without the carcinogenic neurotoxin poison. I've inspired others to walk this path simply by being myself. I'm never pushy about it, but sometimes others catch on and realize you don't need to consume this crap. I know many people who will never not drink though. They just can't imagine what they would do on a friday night except spend a ton of money at the bar and get trashed- then drive home and do the same thing Saturday night. I see so many people locked in this rhythm. I think it's pretty sad how it is so ingrained in our civilization. That's just my opinion. I know many people enjoy this substance, and I never try to make people feel bad about it. I suppose I just have harsh opinions regarding it.

I'd rather go to Burning Man or some other psychedelic gathering and drop acid!

I don't like crowds or social events, so that's never an issue. I mainly drank alone or with 1 or 2 others.

Feel you on the ambivalence towards the spice. I never smoke plain freebase anymore, not since discovering changa, really. And I hardly ever smoke plain changa. I like to have four grams of syrian rue in me first, and then it's usually an oral dose with the changa bong by my side if I feel like kicking things up a notch. Strange, maybe, that I don't really care for a 10-15 minute ride, but I love an all night session (all my sessions are all night sessions as syrian rue keeps me up and sometimes feeling like going for a run in the middle of the trip. No sleep for me with rue).

I dont go out to social gathering where people drink either, unless it is a family thing. I have no desire to entertain drunk people and dont find those situations keep me entertained in the slightest. Even if I was to go out to some event with alcohol, I would have no desire to touch it. I just dont like it. I dont care if other people drink that is their choice. It just makes me feel like crap, it is killing one person close to me and I have watched other family members waste away from it's use. I have not had a drink in almost 2 years now I think.

My mother is struggling with alcoholism. Needless to say that alcohol brings up pretty negative feelings.
I very very occasionally drink one glass of beer or wine, and rarely get drunk nowadays.
I don't care for social drinking events either.
One day I took some mesc and we decided to go for a walk in town. When I took the nightbus home, 4 drunken idiots came and sit nex to me!! This made me feel like crap! They brought in realy bad vibrations and didn't stop talking in this jerky kind of way....it felt like an eternity till I arrived home Smile

I know how you feel.

I once found myself on a NYC subway on LSD on a saturday night.

It was one of the most horrific experiences of my life!

I can drink sometimes, but when dosing LSD or any other psychedelic, I really find myself very snesitive to the vibes of drunk poeple in the city, it's truly show you how miserable this can be.
A life dedicated to booze seems so debilitating... There should be other alternative in society, like kava bars of places like that.

Hee hee. I once took shrooms and went to a strip club with my brother (his idea). Not fun.

I quit drinking and smoking ciggarettes last winter. That lasted maybe 4 months.

This winter I started earlier, and it just may really last this time around.

Social situations are a challenge. I had cut back to almost zero in october, then came a halloween party. After that I quit entirely, then came thanksgiving.

Now here comes christmas. I'm thinking about spending the actual solstice on changa or my first wasca, spending christmas alone....then inviting family over to my place a day or so after xmas or early in the new year, to exchange belated presents and feast. On raw vegan goodstuff. And good weed. Without a drink in site.

I appreciate your perspective.

In the past 6 months I've quit drinking, smoking cigs, marijuana, and opiate painkillers. I realized I used them as an escape mechanism and decided to just stop cold turkey.

I started saving my emotional energy and developed an intense will to stop hurting myself. Once I did this it was actually easy to stop. Most of it was indeed "all in my head".

My method:

1. I increased my awareness by becoming more aware of how I was hurting myself.

2. I started plugging my emotional energy drainers- (in other words- I stopped reacting emotionally to the stresses of life and instead started choosing my response to it), and stopped over-indulging in fear-based emotions, food, sleep, work, ego, etc.

3. I chose a more spiritual and healthy lifestyle and made a commitment to myself to stop running from life.

It then became easy to focus my will and live a balanced, healthy lifestyle.Very happy

It's easy now that I have committed myself and tempered my will. I have absolutely no desire to drink, smoke, or use drugs. Don't buy into the victim mentality A.A. myth of "once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic.

Laughing

I once found myself in a bar on Halloween, tripping hard on mushrooms. My brother wanted to check it out so we walked in and I was immediately confronted by a drunk guy. He informed me he didn't like my costume (I was dressed as an escaped mental hospital convict) and proceeded to push me as his friends swarmed in. Not wanting to fight a group of drunks while I was tripping balls, I walked around him and headed for the exit. I then felt a few drops of liquid hit the back of my head. I looked back and saw that he had thrown his drink at me but missed and hit a group of now-very-pissed-off girls in their slutty costumes!Laughing My brother and I were in and out of the bar in under a minute. It all happened so fast. Such a horrible, yet funny experience. That was 2 years ago and the last time I've been in a bar.Rolling eyes
