Hi all,

I can not find any real info on the health risks in relation to being a type 1 diabetic and smoking spice.I know a lady died on Aya who was a diabetic but ! am unsure if her diabetes was the cause of her death.
Someone I know wants to try dmt who is a diabetic. This person has had Amphetamines serveral times and there has never been any problems. Just would like to know if anyone has any info/experience with it or can lead me in the right direction?
Any help would be much appreciated.

What I'm about to say shouldn't be conclusive at all regarding whether or not it's safe, other than in all the reading and forum surfing I've done, I've never seen any other diabetes/DMT related topics or complaints. DMT certainly is not a sugar nor do I believe could raise sugar levels. Perhaps there's a form of sugar in the plant material in regards to ayahuasca like cellulose, maybe glucose? I don't know. Certainly doesn't taste sweet!

DMT could conceivably elevate ones blood glucose by causing the release of adrenaline as a response to the 'stress' of the experience.

As to whether or not its safe in type 1 diabetics, this depends to some degree on the presence or absence of complications such as diabetic proliferative retinopathy, nephropathy causing hypertension, coronary artery atheroma and if changa is being considered, the use of other medications other than insulin.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

thanx for your replies,

"normal" peoples bodies produce insulin from our pancreas, which keeps our blood sugar levels (blood glucose)around 5-7. a type 1 diabetics pancrease is dead so there body can no longer produce insulin (in very simple terms)..... so in regards to "DMT could conceivably elevate ones blood glucose by causing the release of adrenaline as a response to the 'stress' of the experience."
do u mean elevate as in blood glucose rising? or dropping? this person is my wife by the way and when she is "stressed" her blood glucose can go up or down (from anywhere up to 30 down to 1...which can be scary).

do u think it would be safe to monitor a low dose as in 0.01 or 0.005? and check glucose and see if there is any dramatic changes?

lol i do not want her to be a guinea pig or anything.

Physical and psychic stress causes adrenaline release from the adrenal gland which, amongst other effects, breaks down stored glycogen in the skeletal muscles and liver to raise the circulating level of blood glucose. The complications mentioned in my previous post are much more relevant than a slight rise in the blood glucose caused by the stress response, particularly as the insulin the diabetic takes will allow its uptake into muscles and adipose tissue.Diabetics are at risk of cardiovascular disease which can be a reason to be cautious with DMT as it can elevate the blood pressure acutely and sometimes in a marked fashion.

Hello friends, I am a type one diabetic with a rather reputable health history. I had an endo appointment just yesterday afternoon and for a straight year now have harboured a 6.0-6.3 hemoglobin A1C level, which typically is a percent chance of complications arising from diabetes at a later time. I check my blood sugar regularly and am a proud (sometimes frustrated) owner of a Tandem t:slim insulin pump device. Recently I was given the opportunity to undergo the usage of spice and naturally before embarking on this journey, factored in the added health risks of my diabetes metillus to the experience. I have been a regular user of marijuana for a couple of months now (at least once a day since I started for the most part) as well as alcohol indulgence. I have found that marijuana tends to lower my blood sugar levels immediately, while over time (let's say, as I sleep) raises them significantly (upwards of 400 if not carefully managed). So I was hesitant to take on the challenge of DMT for the first time, as it would be the very first "hard" drug I would take in my life. I was VERY hesitant as a matter of fact, but I decided, for the sake of science and every other diabetic out there who is interested in trying this, that it would be worth it. I did several hours of research throughout the internet desperately searching for the health risks with the use of DMT and diabetes and unfortunately there wasn't even a Yahoo! questions post about it. Hence, I am here now, hoping that someone, at some point in time, with a similar desire and repertoire as myself or perhaps a friend with such, would be able to enlighten them with my findings. Keep in mind though that everyone's diabetes is unique in the fashion that it affects them and this might not be the same for all. Be sure that if you are going to try spice, that your blood sugar levels have been regular for a minimum of an hour and that you feel as though you are ready. A bad trip on spice is not only a kill joy, but might actually affect your diabetes. Much to my surprise it was entirely worth it and I came out unscathed. Of course, as other voyagers know, the things seen in that world are nearly undescribable.

Be safe my friends. And yes I plan on using spice in the future. Thank you for your time.

Matt
