So I had two ft. of achuma that I made resin from.
It was quite nice, didn't seem super strong as I expected but was strong enough.

I froze the leftovers as they still tasted bitter after 5-6 boils.
Recently I made some tea from them but only did one long boil adding more water a few times.
The tea is very bitter though.

So I am wondering if bitterness is any indicator of mesc content, or could I just be dosing a bunch of nasties?

no way to be certain without knowing the cactus... but bitterness usually indicates the presence of alkaloids. If the cactus is legit, its probably goodies.

The original resin tek said to change out the water and keep going until the cactus chunks are no longer bitter. The updated teks seem to go easier on the amount of cooking in attempt to have the end result less gooey and loaded with plant fats etc.

Im a fan of getting everything out and then cleaning it up after, but at some point I guess there are diminished returns.

good luck

Thanks, ya I boiled it so long the first time I didn't have the patience for all the bitterness to come out.
It's definitely legit so hopefully I will get some mild effects.

I will most likely clean it up next time, the headache the next day was pretty awful.
But the experience was well worth it!

Headache may not be directly related. Teeth clenching, dehydration, eye strain.... Possibilities... Maybe the lack of food.

I find that if I drink lots of water, chew gum and eat before I go to sleep I don't feel anything but awesome the next day.

Thanks guys, I really didn't think of that.
now I realize I really should have been aware of that considering it is a phenethylamine.

I just thought it was all the other alkaloids present.

Madcap you must take it pretty early in the day to sleep that night.
I was up for about 20+ hours after the experience.
I knew it would last a long time but I decided to take it around 3pm spontaneously.

pure mescaline causes severe headaches in some people, this is well known, but only a minority of people, staying hydrated, eating to keep blood sugar up and taking an anti-inflammatory will help reduce the severity of the headache, but will not eliminate it in some people...

also, some bitter alkaloids are hardly soluble in water and so the bitterness test of plant tissue is not reliable, candicine for example, and other tyramine based alkaloids may not be very soluble but will be bitter

some active plants are hardly bitter at all, some extremely active plants are extremely bitter
some inactive plants are also extremely bitter

mescaline has a flavor that if you become familiar with it, you can detect it, the subtle aspects of flavor in this regard are far more valuable than bitterness itself, though mescaline is bitter

I wasn't really thinking about your dosage there. I rarely get to go big. pretty much stuck to extracts.. due to poor quality cactus. I have a garden going now, so that will not be the case soon.

I do take it pretty early... usually go 300-400 mg at 10 or 11 am after a cup or two of coffee. Eat fruit as I can and drink lots of water. Vape mj throughout. I may have a rum and juice drink around 5-6pm. Try and get a couple fresh tacos in around 8pm. Try and get into bed by 3am. Wake up feeling good.

Mescaline is not an amphetamine, it is a phenethylamine.
The amphetamine version of it is 3,4,5-trimethoxy-amphetamine

Fixed, thanks my bad.
I was focused on the stimulating effects and was mistaken.
