I have read several posts on here, and had several experiences myself involving this giant machine. It's made of an assortment of cogs all moving and working together in unison to make something utterly amazing. Occasionally I will see the elves working on it almost as if they are performing maintenance of some sort.

I am curious to hear the Nexus's thoughts on what this machine may be or what it may represent. So please, if you have had any experiences with this Great Machine, and have an opinion on what it is. Feel free to post them and share.

Yes, I have given this much thought - though I haven't taken a spice trip yet, I've read many a trip report and experienced something akin to cosmic machinery on a breakthrough salvia trip - though it is surely a different beast.

We have "laws" of nature. They hold up under almost any scrutiny. We know that gravity will continue to behave as it does. The laws of thermodynamics do not fail in our "window" of the universe. They may very well be totally universal.

The laws of thermodynamics are a pretty recent discovery. They were discovered, in fact, in the industrial revolution - specifically as it became more crucial for mankind to build great machines to work for them. In an attempt to maximize machine efficiency, experiments were done and thermodynamic laws were discovered, which seemed to underly everything.

1. Energy or matter can neither be created nor destroyed. It is only changed and exchanged.
2. Energy exhibits entropy. No system can be 100% efficient - There is always some energy "vented" in a mechanical process.
3. There is a temperature "bottom" of absolute zero where entropy ceases. The law suggests it is impossible to actually achieve this temperature.

We don't know why the universal laws are what they are, but we do know that they seem to be crucial in order for our earthly existence. If the laws of physics and thermodynamics were even slightly different, we could never have evolved in the universe.

DMT, for many people, reveals a cosmic machinery that actually appears to be regulated and maintained by entities. Nobody knows the nature of these things. In medieval times it was believed that the sky was a crystal sphere which spun around the flat earth. But how did it spin? What force caused its perpetual movement? Science of the day could not answer this, and so the temporary solution was to blame the angels - heavenly workers on the 'other side' of the crystal sphere whose "job" was to spin the cosmos around the earth.

Sounds like a terribly tedious task to me. I sometimes wonder - what if the grind doesn't cease after death? If awareness does in fact constitute energy, and that energy is part of the mechanical spinning and changing of the universe, then we very well may all be destined to be cogs in a machine for the duration of the universe. Which means that life in this day and age is perfectly suited for getting us very much used to this fate!

Perhaps the machinery on display during a DMT trip is a way for our minds to cope with a visionary journey into bewilderingly complex 'natural' machinery - either into the brain itself - the neural cogs that form the patterns of our minds - or into the "vast machinery of nature" itself as Carl Sagan put it.

Yeah I know... Could be the machine of our brain operating and what not... Reminds me of transformers. Check out transformers 3 movies intro, before the "transformers" text appears. They show how it looks like inside a transformer. Very DMT like.

how big is this Great Machine?

I get a transforming monolith that moves toward me from a distant point at the begining of some journeys. This has a very transformer like quality and i identify with tele's description.

I must say most of my journeys have "tecnological" aspect to them. That is, things seem very mechanical, made of some kind of "sacred code".

Here's the transformers clip

it depends, ive seen it up close and ive seen it from a vast distance,
up close i could see complex pneumatics, hydraulics, gear-works, cables, pipes, etc.
once i saw it from what seemed to be the center of a hollowed out sphere (center = furthest away possible),
and it was a very large bend wall, matrix style, shaped like the inside of a egg/moon/planet, seemed many km's/miles large.
it was like the machinery was one big breeding egg... Rolling eyes

I have seen countless different types of machines in hyperspace. Some of them are completely mysterious, some seem to house/support entities or souls, some make me think I'm inside of something microscopically small, some just look neat. One had an entity in it that floated out and I was then sucked into her place. It was a synaesthesia machine. That was a fantastic journey indeed.

I've also once been to a place that I would label the Gears of the Universe. It shattered my atheism and a lot of other things too. I've never been back and from the start I knew not to try to chase such an experience.

Thanks for the movie clip. Very similar.

I can relate a lot to this thank you for sharing.

I also like this description!

When I posted this I was having trouble describing it but you guys have done a very good job at it.

let me quote Razz

I've seen this machine on many occasions. To me it appears to be the mechanical workings of the universe. One needn't worry about it stopping or this or that because natural laws and forces perpetually keep it in working order. My guess is that you can expect that machine to stop working in the same way that you might expect gravity to stop working here on Earth (it won't Wink )

I really like this one. Don't get me wrong all the others are good theories as well, but this one I can relate to how I personally feel about it.
