I suppose I agree with a lot that you said, but I wanted to point out that I don't believe that consciousness expansion is always an intentional process. You don't always have to participate in something to expand your consciousness. I think there have been points in history where the human species as a whole has sort of been thrusted through the process such as with the dropping of the atomic bomb and increased awareness for human potential for disaster or the internet which helped to unify people from around the globe, but frankly you don't actually have to use the internet for it to affect the very way you live and think about the world every day.
