Awesome! Where did you see Shpongle? I've always wanted to catch them live, they are probably my favorite electronic artist group ever! Anything I say is completely false and should not be taken seriously.

Thank you so much for this! Your summary is right on the money and your pictures do last night justice. I love the Fox but I've been in that theater in various locations on various substances and yeah the sound is not perfect. Also, almost seemed like it took to the end to get the mix on the singers' voices figures out. Nonetheless, I summarize my experience as follows: Wowww. Shpongle was amazing. I took no more than 150-180 mikes of LSD and it hit like 4-500, easily. A classic case of set and setting being key to bringing out LSD's effects. I'm still watching letters dance on the screen 9 hours after dosing. No need for MDMA. Too tired for DMT. Burning some hash oil and chuckling with tears in my eyes. Amazing, high energy, erotic at times, unique and creative show that included a version of "Shout It Out!" for Oakland (with local talent). All I can say is the term Shpongle Experience . . . . it was like having fullblown Tryptamine Giggle level effects induced . . . . without taking a tryptamine. I laughed so hard I cried during a couple memorable parts. I cannot remember that ever happening at a rock or psychedelic show before - due to the entertainment being so novel and delightful and the sound so good. Costuming and dancers were some of the best quality I've ever witnessed for a live performance - I've seen a lot of shows of various styles and qualities over the decades. Pretty sure they had the belly dancer from Beats Antique in there for at least a song or two also. They brought the male dancer from the 2008 video with them as well as the super talented hang drum player (for "Nothing is Something Worth Doing" ). So glad I went. Truly was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us. We were very surprised at how, frankly, mature (in terms of chronological age) the crowd was, in general last night. Peace & Shpongle Love P.S.: Can hardly wait for your video - really looking forward to it. Thanks again. "But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."-Rick Doblin, Ph.D. MAPS President, MAPS Bulletin Vol. XX, No. 1, pg. 2Hyperspace LOVES YOU

I also attended the Oakland show! The experience was beyond expression, but to say the least it was immensely enjoyable. I also recorded 1080p video with a Panasonic ZS10. Turned out very well. (If all those photos are yours, digitalsam, you were very close to me at one point!) A little TL;DR below if you want to read about the show. Otherwise, the setlist is pertinent: Ineffable Mysteries Shpongolese Spoken Here Museum of Consciousness Dorset Perception Periscopes of Consciousness Schmaltz Herring Nothing is Something Worth Doing When Shall I Be Free? The Stamen of the Shaman No Turn Unstoned I Am You Invisible Man in a Fluorescent Suit Electroplasm Divine Moments of Truth My Head Feels Like a Frisbee Beija Flor Around the World in a Tea Daze Initial ThoughtsQuote:Indescribable. Good vibes before and throughout the openers and Shpongle. Good music, good vibes, good people, simply an absolutely wonderfully amazing experience. ‘Museum of Consciousness’ is a interesting track. Uniquely Shpongle is the best way to describe it, although, I will also say that it sounds like a reasonable evolution of the general sound of Ineffable Mysteries.
The band was excellent. In particular Joe Russo is very pleasing on drums. The costumes were very cool and so were the dancers. It’s not something that can be adequately described with words. Nearly two and one half hours of aural bliss.
I only wish I had decided to go to the NYC show, too, but, I’m glad I got to see the guys that brought me to my current position. With the responses from both shows I hope they understand that they are welcome here without question, and that we need them here more often. More ThoughtsQuote: Arriving at the venue about half an hour before doors opened I was surprised to find myself among the very first people in line. Inside, the Fox Theatre is absolutely beautiful. Lighting was perfect for the evening; floods of purple and teal with streaks of gold adorned the fractal-y suggestive ceiling. Perfect for setting the mood for what was to come later on.
Outersect began shortly after taking my seat, and the venue remained largely vacant. Outersect’s set was very good and the stage lighting created a very relaxing atmosphere. The projectors also displayed mandala-like patterns against the stage curtain, evoking very emotional, good memories. Lynx came out a few minutes after Outersect finished and played to a somewhat more full venue. Her music was enjoyable although not psy-anything in any form.
After Lynx left the final touches to the stage for Shpongle were set up, requiring the curtain to be parted a small amount which elicited quite a few cheers and screams for the inevitable. Two wicker structures with distorted geometry were brought out and set on either side of the stage; something new that let us know we weren’t in for a ‘standard’ Shpongle concert.
Not long after the curtains had been closed again, Raja Ram stuck his masked head out and beckoned us to come to Shpongleland before the curtains were entirely withdrawn. The band came out to much ecstatic cheering and started us off with ‘Ineffable Mysteries’. Immediately I noticed that Joe Russo’s drumming had vastly improved from his first appearance with Shpongle at this year’s Camp Bisco X, and in fact, I was continually impressed by his work.
The costumes worn by the band were very cool. The two I noticed most were Simon’s, because he finally put something else on besides his puffy shirt and fedora, and Michelle’s highly UV reactive clothing that lead me to refer to her as Candy Girl throughout the night. The dancers from Black Kat Kabaret were a mildly unexpected addition to the show, as I had understood them to be one of the openers, but I stood corrected. Their choreographed pieces and costumes to go along with Shpongle’s music was a nice touch. And don’t let me forget the Go-Go dancers, who indeed came on stage for Beija Flor and Tea Daze.
The music itself was absolutely amazing for me to finally hear live. I had decided against attending any of Simon’s Shpongletron DJ sets that had been brought to Illinois over the past few years, and I’m glad I did. Shpongle is itself, but a DJ set cannot possibly compare to the band, and finally experiencing Shpongle, I have no doubt, was made all the sweeter by abstaining from them.
An amazing set was performed for nearly two and one half hours for those of us lucky enough to be there from the start, and a great one it was. Museum of Consciousness made its second live appearance at this show, and it’s a curiously dark-sounding track, but not entirely unlike the work from ‘Ineffable Mysteries’. It makes me eager for Shpongle 5 not only to hear the rest of the work, but also so that I might see Shpongle again, whether here or abroad.
The crowd’s cheering throughout was incredible in its own right, and I hope that the enthusiasm has let the band know that they are not only unconditionally welcome any time, but that they need to be here more often. On another note from the crowd, although I knew that weed would be smoked abundantly, and that some would bring LSD, psilocybe mushrooms, and even a bit of DMT for the obvious, but I didn’t quite expect the smoalking to begin at Ineffable Mysteries, the very beginning of the set. Despite that, I’ll say that the scent was rather nice as it usually is from Dimitri, although quite a few times I could smell it burning. That’s what you get if you don’t want to try sneaking in a GVG. The scents of MJ and DiMiTri traded places for approximately half of the show before settling on that which is distinctly mothball-esque.
Filming was excellent, although I had a slight problem for a little while with silhouetted heads, being behind one row of people. I took care of the issue by moving up to the railing after half an hour or so seeing as seating reservations weren’t high on anyone’s priorities. Near the end of the set, an anonymous Shpongle Gal leaned in to my right ear, without indicating her presence by sound or touch, and told me that I ‘..have spectacular zoom.’ I looked around briefly but didn’t see any obvious contenders. I was and still am at a loss as to who you are. I would have at least liked to see you. Perhaps by a stroke of coincidence you’ll observe these notes and/or the video which contains audio with your statement on record and give a shout.
Overall, this was an incredible show, easily the best I have attended. I look very happily toward the next time Simon, Raj and the gang return, or at least toward the next time I will see them.

Wonderful posting! Great pictures! WoW! I feel like I got ripped off seeing only the shpongletron DJ experience. I hope some time in the future I get a chance to see the entire setup. Looks amazing. Simon Posford is truly a genius. Thanks for those pictures, the show looks like it would've been quite a journey. I've seen him live once doing his Shpongle DJ set, which was quite an amazing time on LSD, but i can only imagine a full on LIVE show =]
Don't feel too bad, though, Ice House. There's only been a small handful of the full on LIVE Shpongle shows with the full group and everything. After seeing and talking to him on a personal account, would love to get a chance to re-experience Simon's brilliance using his Shpongletron show, which would be an absolute brilliant journey. But of course, its every Shpongloid's (or however we are called) dream to see the full thing.
For those of you who got to see the show, it sounds like everything was beyond expectation. I am very much happy to see that Simon and Raja continually strive to wow the minds of those who get to see them. Would love it if you guys could put up some video for us to check out =].
DigitalSam's last picture of the guy with the 3 sets of eyes, also, just took me back real quick, lol. Exactly what my friends' faces looked like when I hit the threshold's edge on DMT, only difference being they had 2 sets of eyes and not 3. Was quite a trip without being a breakthrough =].

Shpongle is so amazing and is some of my very favorite music! So sad i was not able to go, really but maybe they will do it again in the U.S. next year, one can only hope! aslo perhaps they will release a dvd. Also just want to say, to whoever said they skipped out on shpongletron in their area, so they could build anticipation or something for the live shows because, and i quote "I had decided against attending any of Simon’s Shpongletron DJ sets that had been brought to Illinois over the past few years, and I’m glad I did. Shpongle is itself, but a DJ set cannot possibly compare to the band, and finally experiencing Shpongle, I have no doubt, was made all the sweeter by abstaining from them." Just want to make the point that, shpongle IS electronic music at heart. The way shpongle makes their music is not live at all, they slowly piece together a brilliant electronic tapestry, and most of the sounds are programmed or sampled, with obvious exeptions, expecially in Ineffible Mysteries, but my point is since it is electronic with basically techno drums and bass and rythm, a DJ set is perfect to bring out the shpongle spirit, and he mixes the DJ set in such a way that the songs are remixed and very different and he plays an active role in sculpting the sound during the set. I would not have wanted to miss out on those live mixes, it is a far cry from just playing their cd's at a louder volume with a crowd. He makes it an amazing experience. Also if you havent seen shpongletron, how could you say, theres now way a dj set could compare..... Shpongle is electronic music, it is well suited to a DJ set, Shpongle live, is a re-creation of their electronic music, with live drums bass flutes percussion etc. but many of the bread and butter electronic sounds are pre-programmed and automatically fired in certain points of the timeline of the track. they hit play and basically play along with that. So it is not 100% live at all. Not saying anything bad about that at all, i think its great, just pointing it out that they need the electro end to be shpongle. Shpongletron for me was mindblowing, absolutely landmark. I think something like the shpongletron is the future of recorded media, mixing 3d videomapped awesome visuals with the amazing DJ set. the set itself is completely worth seeing/hearing because it is remixed in an amazing way, and made heavier and trancier All the tracks are completely unique sounding not the same as their studio recorded counterparts. A good term for it is "Hallucinogen-ized Shpongle" after all simon is hallucinogen too, so it is only appropriate. The DJ set is more psychedelic and experimental, the mixes are totally unique, this is because their is no pressure and he can take the time to make the mix as sick as he can, a live show, you just have to struggle to recreate it as is and not fuck up! He also does like an anthology of psychedelic music, not just shpongle but he opened 1 show with strangitude (which is a track by Ozric Tentacles, my absolute favorites) they played Trains by younger brother, jingle of the sphinx (hallucinogen), gamma goblins in dub (hallucinogen in dub, ott) they played on the run (Pink floyd), I am a freak (younger brother) it was undescribably amazing. When they played when shall i be free i was literally in ego-less extacy and i was literally in tears. Please dont misunderstand me, i would so love to see shpongle live and there are absolutely tracks that i think lend themselves to be more suited for live performance than DJ (like nothing is something worth doing, blissful awareness, when shall i be free, etc.) and Im positive he raised the bar and it was amazing, just saying i dont see how not seeing shpongletron makes it any better. If anything you would have just heard different aspects of shpongle! Ill say for my part, Ive seen shpongeltron 2 times and had several of the best nights of my life! Totally worth seeing, would have totally sucked not to see it. and they werent in my area i had to travel 600 miles, but i happily did, so i cant imagine shpongletron coming to my area, and intentionally skipping out on it lol. We really wanted to go to shpongle live, but finances got tight and also we had to travel for a family funeral. I only hope they do it again next year, and that they release it on dvd, for it is the wifey and mine dream to see shpongle live. Cheers to all you lucky ones that got to attend! You have never been apart from me. You can never depart and never return, for we are continuous, indistinguishable. We are eternal forever

That last picture with 6 eyes is a picture of Simon that i tweaked out and sent him about 6 years ago. I miss the days when you could order something from twisted and you would get your package addressed to you by hand from Simon himself. But I'm also very happy for the sonic genious for making his own genre and being loved world wide literally. (interesting fact for you all...... Shpongles biggest fan base is none other than japan, now that tells you something right" Digitalsam

Very well done! It was a perfect depiction. The time I got to see him in my area was quite special. It was basically a rave that went 7pm - 7am (him playing from 6am - 7am) and I had these VIP tickets that allowed backstage/stage access. Throughout his set, he would walk up in front of the DJ booth and dance with the crowd. One time specifically he jumped in and crowd surfed real quickly, I took a picture of it and he asked me to email it to him. It's important to show how much we appreciate him and what he does =] Harmalosa wrote:a DJ set is perfect to bring out the shpongle spirit, and he mixes the DJ set in such a way that the songs are remixed and very different and he plays an active role in sculpting the sound during the set.
Dead on queue Harmalosa. I absolutely love his DJ style, very unique. It was really cool getting a chance to watch him DJ standing right beside him (same show as mentioned above). He barely even used his headphones, long enough to make sure the next track was were he wanted it. After that, it was all free form. I really loved how certain tracks he would literally just pull the pitch way down and seamlessly blend it into another track that would then slowly pick its way back up. Definitely a most awe-inspiring journey through music.
