hey everyone just a question regarding my ears..I understand that the experience is very audible and many people report very loud noises during their experiences...I have slight hearing damage..this worries me slightly and is a concern of mine..any science data on if this is a physical thing or mental thing? Has anyone ever had any hearing problems afterward? My ears ring constantly, and I wouldn't want to damage them further...any insight would be appreciated...thanks

Hey Hypoluxa

I have some theories on this topic. The reason I think the "carrier wave" gets so damn loud in hyperspace is blood pressure. DMT is slightly vasoconstricting and I notice when I use it I can feel this. It's my belief that the carrier wave, or the sound of tinnitus, is some kind of neuroelectric / audio signaling biological feedback. This has been well documented by scientists studying the effects of sensory deprivation, seeing as how the only two things they report hearing are the cardiovascular system, and the neuroelectric system. The interesting thing about this is I have witnessed many people who begin to use psychedelics begin to realize they are aware of this sound. This leads me to believe that psychedelics are opening up our awareness to even the most subtle effects in our bodies. I perceive way more information nowadays then I did when I was younger and not very experienced with these medicines.

So in a nutshell, I would not be worried about hearing damage what-so-ever from DMT use. I have nerve damage that blocks my eustachian tube from opening which causes me a lot of pain and inability to hear well out of my right ear. I notice that DMT is one of the very few compounds that actually opens up this area and allows me to feel well. The most effective being LSD. So this personal observation has lead me to the belief that ingesting DMT is very good for me physically. Personally I have found nothing to refute this claim...

I second house's idea.

I think that entheogens increase our awareness of subtle phenonmena incredibly, and this can make one aware of things that one had not been previously.

Heightened awareness, rather than increasing some kind of physical damage is my take. There is no evidence for any physical damage to the human body from the use of any of the classic psychedelics (even chronic long term useage)... they may put some unstable people in a mental hospital, but they won't damage your ears.

A lot of people attribute some or all of the tinnitus they experience to spiritual, energetic, or astral noises. A kind of second hearing sense where one can directly perceive chi and high frequency energy waves. Yogi's talk about hearing the sound of OM early on in their yoga practice.

You will have to decide for yourself what that ringing means to you, but nearly everyone I know hears it to varrying degrees... of course nearly everyone I know has been to loud rock concerts.

How about the sizzling and humming noises made by the entities?
At least I don't think the sound of the carrier wave(or tinnitus as one might want to call it) is only because of heightened blood pressure.
Also, the sound of the carrier wave doesn't come every time, even at higher doses, would that simply mean that blood pressure doesn't rise each time?

Your points and others I won't go into at this time, do lend credence to the spiritual, astral and higher dimensional aspects to at least some of the DMT induced sounds.

My carrier wave is definitely not tinnitus.

I have learned via meditation to hear the noise at all times. It changes pitch based on mood as well as substance I'm on, and sometimes it just changes pitch and volume quite sporadically.

I don't have high blood pressure and never have.

Personally I think that noise you hear is AUM or the literal sound of creation. Even more if I meditate on the noise it starts breaking up into constituent parts just like Patanjali described in his yoga sutras. I've heard it ring like church bells, I've heard it buzz like bees, I've heard it roar like the ocean. I have heard it go high pitched and then switch and go low pitch. I've learned to take a lot of comfort in this noise..

I'm not saying the blood pressure theory is wrong for some people, but for me. That noise is unquestionable the sound of AUM. Furthermore I have taught others how to hear their carrier wave (AUM) as well.

Just more food for thought.

yeah I've had ringing, more like hissing, for about a year now following a bout of vertigo...I attribute it to a variety of things, it has changed my outlook on life drastically...anyone who has had vertigo knows it sucks bad...I have my theories....thanks for responding

It's weird though, I did perceive the noise pre-vertigo..but after the vertigo it increased to the point that it really sent me into a hypersensitive place, threw off my sleep patterns and just made life difficult in general..more difficult than the usual difficult for us sensitives..the docs said I had "labrynthitis" and gave me cold medicine..since then I have visited many natural healers with varying degrees of success..my body has become more used to it now, but I don't want it to get worse...any tips on how to deal with this from a mental/emotional perspective? I've done everything physical that I can....thanks for responding

It is still my belief that the slightly vasoconstricting physical effects of N,N-DMT cause a slight increase in blood pressure. This is what happens with vasoconstricting substances afaik, even more so with LSD. It's all linked when you think about it, whether you want to call the noise neuroelectricity or AUM...

As for coping, I like to imagine the sound is an allotment of frequencies (because it is) and since I am synesthetic, I begin to see these frequencies as light being emitted from my being. This, cannabis, and acceptance, are about all I know. Razz

I wouldn't worry about damage. Theres 0 evidence of this. The carrier wave goes way way beyond any tinnitus i've had. Merely focusing on it usually brings out some stunning experiences. Just last night i ate a bit of harmalas and tried a low dose of changa.. i could hear the tone before smoalking but after it persisted well into the night and would slide seamlessly into dream vistas filled with some insane audio hallucinations of not only hyperspace sounds but people and things as well.

Yeah that's my point, it can't be simply due to raised blood pressure. There must be more to it which we can't understand. DMT space is highly connected to sound in my experience, therefore I don't think it's so simply explained by physical phenomena.

To the OP: About coping with tinnitus, best way is just ignoring it. If one gives it too much tought or attention it will do you no good.

Without a doubt DMT toy's with your blood pressure. Dr. Strassman noted most subject had elevated BP, but a few had decrease in BP. I can feel a noticeable difference during and after smoking DMT in BP. It almost alway's raises it for me.

The noise I'm talking about has nothing to do with blood pressure at all though. I can hear it right now. I can hear it in traffic, I can hear it any time I focus on it. If I bring my attention to this noise and then smoke DMT I can hear it get louder and the pitch begins to go up. This noise is ALWAYS there...for EVERYONE. I can teach anyone how to hear it. The only reason I call it Aum is because ancient yogies gave it that name thousands of years ago. No since trying to come up with my own name...although I do like Carrier Wave!

So, for me, I remain unconvinced that this noise is BP related. I think for most people they are simply not aware of this noise....DMT greatly increses their presence of awareness and they notice the noise. That is my best theory.

Peace

The sound itself is a phenomena that occurs from having a CNS w/ a neuroelectric system. It's just a small portion of the frequencies we emit. That is why it is so amplified by DMT and hyperspace seemingly stems from this tone. Just my theory ;]

I also hear it all the time. DMT just amplifies it and tunes my awareness into it and a whole new spectrum/octave of frequencies (hyperspace) is perceived. Fascinating.
