So there has been a following of people turning their back on involvement with the 99% that is part of the OCCUPY movement. They claim to be the 53% that pays taxes, works, and takes full responsibility for the position they find themselves in. I understand some people have worked damn hard to get where they are at, fortunate or not. Well, we know we're unhappy. Who is their audience? My opinion is they are just as much of victims in this capitalism game as the rest of us. Should I respect you? Is this a humble attitude or discriminatory of those who do not agree? What are your thoughts on this?

So if I understand right they say that since they've had a hard life they find it unfair that others don't ? Nice...

Yeah it's miserable if you ask me... I know some people like that around. Working hard from early teenagehood, but they usually are pissed off against this system (working hard until +60 years old), feeling like tey worked to feed the other part that don't work, but all it show is we all need a break !!!!
It's trus that psychology is differenet and some poeple hating their job for numbers of reasons won't ever leave it since they aren't sure how this will turn up on their economical situation. Others just leave it and ride it.
I think they shouldn't try and divide for that.
as usual when there is a big contestation movement it's starting to "divinding to reign better".

I haven’t looked closely at the site yet, but it seems to be focused on those who work hard and take personal responsibility for their lives. The unfortunate implication is that the “other” 46% of the 99% don’t take personal responsibility and don’t work hard. It sets up an “us vs. them” mentality, and the only ones who benefit from that are the 1%.

The 1% loves to see divisiveness and conflict among the 99%. They encourage it. They depend on it. They watch the 99% bicker and fight over crumbs while they eat cake.

But getting back to the 53% who pay taxes, work hard, spend and save responsibly. Here’s a quote from a personal vignette on the home page of the site:

Who chooses to have their job shipped off to China or Mexico so that company profits can be increased? Who chooses to give up their pension or health care benefits so that their employer’s top officers and investors can collect even larger bonuses? Who chooses to be financially ruined because of an uninsured illness? Who chooses to work hard, responsibly save their money, and buy a house, only to see its value plummet because of a housing bubble that they did not create? Who chooses to see their safe, prudent 401K savings disappear because of financial manipulation by the 1% ?

The 53% suffer economically just as much as the rest of the 99%, and they will benefit just as much from whatever positive changes emerge from this movement. It makes no sense to not be part of the movement.

I just wonder where everyone got their figures. I bet this 53% is actually about 20% if anything.

Corporations.

They claim to be people, but show no personal morality or responsibility whatsoever. They are people who weild the power of a million individuals, destroy lives and natural ecosystems with impudence... and can't be put in jail.

Over 1000 OWS people have been arrested, and the crushing of Occupy Oakland was mean spirited and heavy handed... but not one of the bankers, brokers, or ratings agents who broke the world economy have been arrested?

Don't listen to those shills claiming to be the 53%. They are all Uncle Toms. Many of them probably get checks from the Koch brothers. If they actually believed that BS they spew, they would be angriest at the banks and insurance companies who got trillions of handout money. The amount that goes to welfare and school lunches is a pittance.

What they are really saying is that the US economy is so broken that 47% of the people don't earn enough money to be considered out of poverty. (thus are not obliged to pay income tax)

Latest polls show that about 60% of poll respondents support the goals of the Occupy movement. And this is in spite of the fact that they poll by calling people during the daytime... thus swinging the poll in favor of the conservative bent of people who are at home during the day. (senior citizens, housewives whose husbands make enough that they don't have to work et. al.)

I think it's the apathetic attitude that people have about these sorts of things. The, "There's nothing I can do about it" mentality. That's what can make people angry, when others take it right up the ass and do nothing about it. Because to do nothing (except maybe a little complaining to your spouse/friends) allows these things to continue.

I agree with all of you, I am pretty sure the community here can vouch for how ridiculous their claims are..its actually a selfish way of betraying your people by feeling superior to those less fortunate. A lot of people are in debt, unemployed, laid off, etc. The point is to try to do your best and do what you can, lend a helping hand, but these people seem to be bragging about subjecting themselves to suffering and working, and we all know no one wins in that situation. Stepping on each other to get to the top, we need to be united in this venture.

I've always stood in wonderment before such an attitude, expressed by a regular everyman, it was always just a bit strain for me to get it, but I think I got it now.


These "53 percent" are The Truly Complacent, who hate not their overlords, but those who would rebel against said overlords. Afraid to ever stand up themselves, for anything, ever, they console themselves by scorning those who have just a wittle bit more courage than themselves.

Historical precedents would include the Loyalists during the American Revolution in the 1700s, also the black slaves who fought for the confederacy.
