A topic of discussion came up in another post (how long would it take) that I thought deserved it's own place

For those out there that reside in higher latitudes, a good alternative to freeze precipitation in a freezer is to do it outdoors in the winter time. If the solvent is placed outside in the afternoon and left until the middle of the night you get a nice smooth temperature drop down to what can be much colder than in a freezer. This yields nice big crystals without the need to do a repeated freezer to fridge swap. The idea is similar to using a cooler warmer like was talked about here, to slowly drop the temperature over time.

Just something to think about on a cold December afternoon. Anyone else tried this? An acquaintance has great results doing this

There was a discussion on o thread somewhere here, whre thy were discussingwhat type of solvent yeilded the largest crystals. And then i thought back to my geology lessons that said large crystals form because they cool down slower, so i thought it would be good to experiment to put it outside. But has got nowhere near cold enogh here yet! Maybe in a couple of weeks though

SWIM likes the sound of this!...december has made for some cold, cold nights round his way i hear. Bet that smooth drop into a freeze precipitation would make for some beauties. As long as SWIM is ready to grab the jars before the temp starts to rise and the crystals start to dissolve back into solution again this sounds great, sure SWIM could always use the extra room in the freezer for hhhmmm....food maybe?!?!

haha one time SWIM went to the dmt room..and the beings there showed him what they ate...it was a massive bowl of dmt/maoi! they said that if SWIM wanted to stay there with them..all he would have to do is eat their food(DMT) it was kinda scary..this was around the beginning of his explorations of the spice realms..but they havent asked him to stay in awhile..
