Do we really need to peel them?

Not if extracting. But, do we really need to peel them for tea?

..edit.... That's what I'm saying

Wow - really? Confession time. The peeling task has been holding me back. It is so difficult and painful . . .

I haven't peeled a piece of cactus for ~ 6 years.
I don't ingest powdered material, however.

I've also heard that the skin adds to the vomit potential...I can taste that flavor in my sleep Confused But I like to peel them just for the ritual aspect and put some mindfulness into the process of what I'm about to do.

I've kept cactus cuttings on a shelf for up to 2 years. Once planted, they know to shoot out roots almost immediately. Why waste time when you can be efficient? You can still be mindful and have an incredibly healing experience even if you don't sit there with your achy joints doing something you really don't even have to do. Pleased

Thanks for this. Given that the reality of peeling even a single foot induces what could be described as a borderline acute arthritic pain crisis in my hands/fingers that lasts for days to a week, I'm inclined to practice mindfulness in other ways if peeling is not absolutely necessary.

Yeah I agree, peeling is pointless unless you are planning on eating dried/fresh cactus.

The first time I prepped cactus it took me 12+hrs because of the peeling, granted I did a lot. but now it's as easy as lopping off a section, chopping it up and boiling down for resin a la ۩
