Here's a bit more information from the source:

SINGLE DOSE OF HALLUCINOGEN MAY CREATE LASTING PERSONALITY CHANGE

Johns Hopkins study of ingredient in “magic mushrooms” found participants exhibited more “openness”

JohnsHopkins wrote:
Lasting change was found in the part of the personality known as openness, which includes traits related to imagination, aesthetics, feelings, abstract ideas and general broad-mindedness.

And the 2006 study:
Psilocybin can occasion mystical-type experiences having substantial and sustained personal meaning and spiritual significance

This is good news. Maybe we really are heading into a new paradigm? Are we seeing the sun rise upon our consciousness after a long cold night? It seems like it's definitely a possibility... Only time will tell.

Nice to hear more validation of our long-held beliefs that psychedelics bring positive changes to people. It's still an uphill battle but at least it's not Sisyphus, we can still get to the top of the hill one day.

Well IMO a single dose or know dose your personality will still change as you grow.

If one is genuinely more open minded, then one is more likely to be receptive to a greater array of input leading to increased satisfaction. Open mindedness can also typically come with an increase in empathy which can result in more positive behavior towards others. I would like to know if you had a specific negative example in mind or if you're playing devil's advocate.

I agree with this;if an individuals 'neurosis' is a consequence of what psychologists refer (or ? did refer ) to as 'repression' then increased openess could well be beneficial.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

i was just wondering if someone could be more open to things they would regret as well
it seems like it goes both ways, that open mindedness isn't good or bad but can be both
one could be more open in general, even to things that harm self or others

i've eaten tons of mushrooms and seem to be more open minded to the idea that open mindedness isn't always positive
that is my example

Well I think that's where there is a distinction that needs to be made about genuine open mindedness and the illusion of open mindedness. In genuine open mindedness which extends such open mindedness into all categories of thought, there is essentially nothing to be feared. Having said that, it seems that semi-close mindedness can often present itself under the guise of open mindedness in which case there could be negative drawbacks.

Finding Jesus can cause permanent personality change, as can being in combat, loving, losing, traumatic injury, dysfunctions of the mind and body, diet and a simple conversation. Everything in the universe is fluid, ever changing, transformation spawning transformation.

Our own ego is no different; The idea that there is a static "you" apart from the world is a hallucination.

Your ego does not exist, it is a personality of your creation. If you live inside of this artificial construct and assume that it is who You are, you are living in a state of psychosis.

It is generally recommended that the mentally ill abstain from the use of psychedelic substances. In the words of Robert Wilson "These drugs tend to make the crazy crazier".

I agree. I had an idea that this was the case but couldn't put it into words. Very cool post.
