DO not have much to say about this except i use to experience this when i was younger, i am unaware when i grew out of it, but i remember one time were this had happened to me, and all i remember is seeing this large spiral spinning in front of me, and i was screaming for help but no words came out, obviously bc i was sleeping.

anyways the main point to this thread is not about me or my experience i had but, i am curious know who here on the nexus has experienced sleep paralysis when they were young or at some point in there life.

Yup. Can be intensely frightening too - the first time I was around 7 and awoke at around 5am with a weight on my chest pinning me down. There was nothing visible in the room, but I had a strong sense that something was there, I couldn't move or breath, and it scared the living crap out of me, I couldd gasp for air occasionally but it was so difficult to even do that. eventually I managed to muster the words 'go... away...' and a few seconds later *poof* I could move and breath again. Very strange. Shocked

I have had it on quite a few occasions, but not since with the sense of presence like in that episode. I still very occasionally suffer from it, 18 years later.

thank you for sharing i never tried any method like that for me, it was like i could not move obviously, and what i always did was i would just put all my energy in moving my big toe and once i got it to move, it was like i was release, idk i can relate when you say that it is intensely frightening, but after a while it happened to me so much i wasn't scared of it, it was like a routine, as a kid i didn't know the term but i looked at as my head was awake but my body was still awake because you able to open your eyes and look around the room.

Yeah there have been times where I could only wiggle a toe / finger to try and get my girlfriend to wake up and help me, but couldn't wiggle enough to wake her up! In those cases, just 'sitting it out' seems to be the best policy. Thank God it's only temporary though, I can't imagine how awful full blown paralysis is.

My first memory of this is from when I was about 15.
I was staying at my first girlfriends family house on a camp bed in their living room. Whilst drifting off to sleep I saw a silhouette of a very large man on the ceiling directly above me. It wasn't that I couldn't move it was that I was too frightened to move.

As I lay there I was aware that the camp bed was lifting up from the left until it was leaning right over. I fell off the bed and slumped into a pile on the floor. I remember thinking "I'll just lye here and pretend to be asleep until morning and then everything will be OK." That was my last memory until morning when I woke up and was back on the bed and everything was normal. It wasn't for many years that I found out about sleep paralysis and realised that this was probably what I expereinced.

I don't rule out a spiritual/ psychic/ quantum nature to sleep paralysis.

Once I had found out about the phenomenon (aged about 18-19) it started happening to me more and more. Mainly during times of disturbed sleep patterns. (I had started going to lots of free parties and raves in the forest, missing whole nights of sleep and experimenting with more psychedelics.) One of the most memorable times was when I had just got in from such a party and I just flopped back on my bed and was "asleep" within seconds. I then hallucinated that there was a man in my room (that looked like one of my friends) taking lots of close up photos of me. I was unable to move and I felt rather threatened. From this point onwards I started putting a shoe in front of my bedroom door so that I could tell if anyone had really come in or not... Needless to say, the shoe never moved.

It was around then that I had my first out of body experience, motivated by the fear of a sleep paralysis I ejected from my body through the top of my head and found myself in the driveway of my house.
It was amazing.

I am now 28 years old and normally find sleep paralysis as an entry point to lucid dreaming. It's no longer that common for me though.

May all the beings in all the worlds be happy and at peace.
