Hello everyone,

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on this, it has been on my mind for quite a while.

Most of us here on the Nexus have a great deal of respect and gratitude to DMT; we know of the infinite power of the molecule and have been humbled by it. However, there exists a subset of users who have absolutely no regard for any spiritual or intellectual growth available, and treat DMT with little respect (i.e. smoking it at parties/drunk/not in a positive mindset). My first thought when it comes to disrespect for the molecule is that they will get straightened out very fast... that DMT will give them the ass-kicking of a lifetime that they will NEVER forget... but, this doesn't always happen, as most of us talk about here on the Nexus regarding these people. I know a few people who have smoked monumental doses on a whim, and had a joyous time and all, but it was just another thrill to them.

I have always been one to believe that DMT offers a reflection to my soul. These thoughts have produced a tremendous amount of respect to me. At the same time, I'm quite aware of how my preconceived notions about DMT can affect my actual experience. Since day one I have respected it, way before I even decided to extract my own. All these thoughts leading up to my experiences produced, in part, my experience itself.

With all this in mind... is it possible, with a certain mindet, in a certain person, to be able to treat DMT casually (like cannabis, or even LSD) and not get your ass handed to you?? I ask this not to encourage this type of behavior at all, as I get a little disgusted by the thought and the sight of seeing such things with some acquaintances, but to see how you all feel about it.

To someone who has never seen the Nexus, never heard of DMT, and takes it up on a whim with some friends, what do you think the probability is of a new user eventually receiving that humbling call?

Well dear, I believe that there are probably people who will smoke spice from time to time their whole lives and never get it... think about it though, it's not doing them any harm really; and maybe it will make them a better person in some way anyway. Enlightenment has a way of sneaking in when you're not looking. Very happy

It's okay if, the things that we regard as sacred, some people only see as interesting or fun. Remember, the world would actually be pretty dull if we all had the same sentiments and principles.

That being said, I feel ya! Some people wouldn't recognize divinity if you smacked 'em upside the head with it!

I gotta agree with TimePantry on this.

No matter how they use it, the only thing that you can do is voice your concerns and let the chips fall where they may. It's not like he's hurting anyone. Free will is a beautiful thing.

I've noticed that people who are less introspective or thoughtful are generally better at handling drug experiences. I don't necessarily see dmt/lsd etc. as a means to a spirit realm but I do take the experiences seriously and I have a certain amount of anxiety going into them. My friends who use psychedelics just to party or 'get fucked up' tend to have less difficult times with them because they don't take them seriously and the drugs don't seem to raise big questions or cause them to evaluate their existence regardless of how large of a dose they take.

Thanks for your responses.

I just want to make clear that this question was posed not to comment on their decision to have a casual relationship with DMT (that, I agree, needs to be a reached on an individual level), but rather if those who do choose to smoke DMT more carelessly (i.e. when drunk) would, even with their carefree attitude towards it, experience the type of humbling, extremely wild ride that many speak of here when they have showed "disrespect" to the spice (i.e. smoking while drunk).

(It is a fairly common ideal expressed around here that DMT has a way of keeping you in line when it comes to respect for what you're doing and why you're doing it.)

Kennedy - you have a great point there! Very true, I'd say. Welcome to the Nexus, we have a great community here Smile

I have noticed that usually the people who take dmt on a whim or at parties (at least in my experience) have no idea at all what the experience is all about and usually do get kicked in their respective metaphysical asses. Most of the people i have encountered who do it this way usually snort it though, which sounds like a stupid and painful idea to me and from their accounts, doesn't seem to work nearly as well as smoking it. For me whenever I have taken dmt when I didn't really feel I needed the experience but did it anyway I have had my ass kicked severely with some not so nice introspection. For example I tried smoking it recently to celebrate swim's recent extraction and to test dmt smoking through a health stone (youtube it) and long story short saw my whole life in a minute and a half, forgot it and then spent the next ten minutes trying to figure out who i was. really scary.
RESPECT DMT!!!

Thanks wake and bacon.

I remember reading about people smoking DMT at concerts. I can't imagine doing that.

At camp bisco last summer I was dancing my ass off during the biscuits, already on 2 good doses, when some kid next to me passes me a piece. I thought it was pot, so I took a HUGE hit and started choking my ass off... then was launched into the outer parts of the universe. totally not expecting that. I fell back into the crowd and almost got trampled and these guys dragged me out of the crowd and laid me on the grass... it was incredible with all the music and lights but I really could have been hurt. Also wasn't expecting it at all

I too have noticed this phenomenon. Many of the people I know who seem to treat psychedelics with little respect could go through many grams of spice without a single difficult or introspective experience to show for it. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing though. I think in time they will probably start to look deeper into the experience and catch on, and even if they never do, it's like TimePantry said. It's probably doing little to no harm, and overall could be making them a better person.

Although, it might not be due to lack of respect but rather the type of person. There are people here on the nexus even that smoke more DMT in a shorter time-frame than I could ever imagine myself doing. However, it is fairly evident (to me at least) that people who just use psychedelics to "get fucked up" do tend to get what they're looking for. I think maybe their subconscious looks at them and knows that they are not opened up enough for a deeper more meaningful experience so they are given an enticing one to keep them interested should they ever open up enough in the future. There is no use in a deep and enlightening experience if you are not willing to learn from it or integrate it, and I think our minds know this and act accordingly.

I agree about the reflection of our souls/spirits while on DMT.

I feel like people get ass kicked only when they should. No matter what their purposes for smoking are. However, I agree that respect or at least being humble should be important to the smoker. If not, well, then not...

well..I mean if you are smoking 15mg doses then sure, you could use it that way..but I wouldnt. Even if I dose low I still like to have the set and setting down..I have smoked DMT at festivals, but the festivals I would go to here in BC are all situated off in the nature in the rainforest or up in the mountains with lots of space around to just walf off into the woods and sit down with a few people and smoke..smoking in a crowd of people though? Not really my thing..

I dont see things like LSD or psilocybin mushrooms to be different though..I mean if you eat 9 grams of mushrooms a some concert you are essentially in the same boat..there is always a dosage curve..with DMT there tends to be this mystique of hyperspace and breakthroughs surrounding it, largely becasue it is easy to get a large dose when inhaled and it has such a short duration that an experience of that magnitude is easier to handle than one of the same depth with say, psilocin..

LSD is seen as more a recreation thing I think..but it is really? Would you go eat 800mics of LSD at a concert? At the same time would you expect to be completely blown away and have your ass kicked if you smoked 10mg of DMT?

Approach is everything.
Long live the unwoke.

Although set, setting, etc. play a big role in a DMT experience, as Fractal has pointed out, the size of the dose plays an even larger role. If a dose is consumed that is far in excess of what is required to break through, it’s quite possible that the user will have a very difficult experience, regardless of their level of respect toward DMT.

An excessive dose when efficiently consumed will quite probably lead to a difficult experience, whereas a light dose (let’s say anything under 20mg) is very unlikely to produce a difficult experience.

With a moderate breakthrough dose, set, setting, and other factors probably play a bigger role.

Put simply, I think a person using DMT in a less than ideal way is more likely to have a rough experience.
In groups, at parties, mixed with other substances, loud music, etc. the list goes on.
If you have half a brain almost everything you need to know is right here at Nexus. At least enough to get a general idea of what this stuff is about and what not to do with it.

I think we all have our prejudice and preferred techniques. Personally i am appalled at some of the things i read on nexus sometimes. But i'm a nut purest when it comes to this stuff. I've learned the hard way through alot of trial and error.

Intense experiences are mostly dosage dependent, at higher doses things like set and setting become more relevent.

The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.

Why disrespect people who do not view DMT as spiritual?

If someone believes differently than I do, and has different experiences than I do, is that really disrespecting me?

If we have faith in DMT, doesn't that entail trusting it?
Why have issue with the perceptions of others?

Intolerance is the worst possible vice.

I feel things have been misrepresented here with my questioning... so to reiterate...

And these users I am talking about are taking large doses, as I have stated in my original post. >50mgs

Anyways, on with the discussion :
