I got this lighter recently, its called the Soto Pocket Torch. It uses regular disposable lighters as fuel and converts them into a windproof torch. You adjust the strength of the torch by adjusting the flame on the disposable lighter. Found it to be a great companion to the GVG and you don't have to find/buy butane, just those cheap $1 lighters. It won the 2010 Backpacker Magazine's Editor's Choice award so it is a winning lighter. Smile I got it from rei.com for $20 + ship in the US.

Have you used it? How do you find it to function?

I'm interested in this, but a little skeptical of getting a quality product from the combination of this with insanely cheap bics.

Agree. It's smarter to buy something that will be your trustworthy fellow on your journeys, such as the arc.Surprised

I own it, i think its great. It lights on the first press of the button and the torch is strong. The angle is good and its comfortable. Only thing was when I first got it, I had the disposable lighter on high so it took a few miliseconds for the torch to go out after you let go of the button. Once you adjust to about 60% it goes out instantly.

I was going to import the Arc before I saw this and was also hesitant about the Soto. Glad I got it though, if its good enough for the wilderness folk, its good enough for me. I can't compare it to anything other than a regular Bic or a cheap deli torch but the GVG is a one hitter now.

Cool! Great to know it's reliable...I may be getting one soon then. Very happy
