I realize in the vapor genie thread it gives a link to a torch lighter but I want more options. I have gone through so many torch lighters. They usually last a month. I once spent 30 on one at a head shop. that lasted maybe 3 months. Money is an issue.

I too know the frustration of torch lighters. I went through 3 myself. They were incredibly unreliable and whatnot because most torch lighters aren't designed to be lit upside down. The Arc table-top torch lighter has been invaluable. It's not terribly expensive like some of my other lighters have been and it's designed to be lit on any angle. It has never failed me and has never had any issues whatsoever. I'm guessing the arc is probably the lighter that they've linked you to in the vapor genie thread, but I must say as someone who considered torch lighters the bane of his existence, the arc is the way to go.

I can't seem to find any website that sells them domestically in the u.s. Does anybody know of one. I don't want to pay for over sea shipping.

I use an arc, but here's something available in the US that's inexpensive and seems like it might be nice:

those 3 threads a1pha posted have good products in them but you can also go to your local tobacco shop and get a torch lighter designed for smoking tobacco pipes like the one i have. they have a 90 degree bend in them so you dont have the upside down problem to deal with.

mine cost 25 dollars and is very well made. so far so good. it survived a very active burning man week no problem. or just order an arc but if you wanted to buy locally and not spend as much check out a good cigar/pipe shop. not a head shop.

I use this and I like it a lot. It uses regular disposable lighters as fuel so you never have to buy butane. Its $20 and sold in the US.

Yeah its rad. You adjust the regular lighter's flame and it affects the torch so you can set to perfect vaping temp. I bought it from this site. Rei.com

Arc is my mate when journeying, but if you can't get it, look for something where the flame is coming from an angle, like in the pic of olympus mon, it makes lighting up a bit easier, especially if you take more than one toke(something I never do) per journey

It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

You can also get the arc on from ebay here. Cost £17.99 plus £8.50 for international shipping. On international orders the butane will be emptied.

That seller is great, I recommend it to anyone wanting to buy the arc for good price

I don't need another lighter right now, but that does sound pretty cool so I bookmarked the page for perhaps a later visitation.

I apologize for bump this old thread, but I would like to share my experience in this matter, since when I was looking for good advice on this topic for myself
I'm an avid smoker, and have traveled well with a number of regular old Bic's (granted I pop the child safety strip off). I've also had a number of Zippo's and other "wind-proof" lighters.

Zippo's and other types of "windproof" and "weatherproof" lighters https://coolerexp.com/best-torch-lighter-review/ all seem to have this nasty habit of burning through fuel. While I have only twice ran a Bic lighter out of fuel in 7 years, I started smoking back then. First time was a little Bic lighter that pooped out after a long time of use both for lighting cigarettes, smoking cannabis, and random other fire related tasks. The second time was in Afghanistan, I managed to run a already long-lived lighter, given to me by the doc, the day I get back to the US and try to light a cigarette it's out of fuel (what luck huh?).

Bic's are tough, they don't leak, they don't smell, they work for a LONG LONG time, they work virtually where any other lighter can work (you may have to cup your hands or put something under your shirt to get it lit but oh-noes that's all too hard. They work anywhere, I've heard that altitude fucks with lighters but I didn't have any problems going from NC (Sea Level) to Herat (~9000ft) granted I didn't go mountain climbing much out there.

Bic's also have the advantage that they're cheap, brightly colored usually (high-visability), I believe they float as well, if you drop a Zippo into a lake, well your up doo-doo creek then huh? they're also pretty light (plastic+lighter parts+lighter than air gas) so you can easily pack a bunch of them (spread them out so they can't get lost from one drop, duh), and if one of them fails, breaks, or gets lost, you simply pull out another one. Also if a Bic lighter gets wet or dirty, just give the burning part a quick blow and it'll work fine; if your worried about your Bic freezing, just put it in your pocket, it'll be fine to atleast -20.

I use the bernzomatic butane refillable torch. You can buy it at Lowes or Home Depot. Buy a couple Benzine bottles with it. Its phenomenal.

I realized very fast those mini torches you buy at head shops are garbage.

I dont know how to post pics here but heres a link:
