This is from the "safety of naptha" topic a few posts up or down, but decided to start a topic.

http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/bsizn/iama_request_someone_who_has_successfully

He states he uses ultra pure lamp oil as the NPS, stating the other paint stripper types are bad to smoke, pull more oil, and are a pain in the ass to properly dispose of.

Id like to try it but would love some reassurance before i mix with this.

No NPS are good to smoke Razz

1) Bad to smoke - Do mimosa hostilis extracts contain solvent traces ? Are the solvent traces effected by heat ?
2) Pull more oil - Are lower alkanes somehow more prone to extracting fats ?
3) Hard to propelry dispose of - How do you usually discard your solvents ?

It will be a hard one to answer since the author can't elaborate.
Got GVG ? Mhm. Got DMT ?

Lamp oil is Liquid paraffin, or mineral oil(paraffin hydocarbon). Which can aparently be ingested with not harm (is used to aid bowel movement in persons suffering chronic constipation; it passes through the gastrointestinal tract without itself being taken into the body)
So this stuff can be dumped down the sink or thrown in the yard will little enviro damage. That i like. I just wonder if it works as well as the naptha im used to using?

Curious to see if you tried it.

This kind of clean evapping lamp oil (parrafin mineral oil) is easy to come by and cheap as f*ck. I don't think it would be toxic, but I wonder how well it pulls and what the spectrum is.

Also a question is how well it would freeze precip... or if evapping is the only way to use it.

Well ladies & gents... the results are in, and SWIM has determined unequivocally:

Ultra Pure Lamp Oil Works!!!

The liquid parrafin, mineral oil is a viable and effective replacement for naptha. It has no real odor to speak of (real bonus over naptha), it is significantly less toxic (in case of spills), and it produces beautiful crystals. I would stop short of calling it non-toxic despite (as Psyren has said) the fact that some people ingest it purposefully.

The main drawback here is that it evaporates MUCH slower than naptha. Ridiculously slow actually. Even just evapping the remains from pouring off a freeze precip can take 3 or more days to dry fully. The little crystals from the freeze precip basically always melt again, and continue to form and melt again. Then the lengthy evap causes beautiful re-x type crystals to form. It basically re-x's itself... leaving very minor bits of oil and jungle alks to the side.

SWIM made his pulls with warm stuff, and even still, the amount of oils and jungle alks was far less than even a room temp naptha pull. If I had to guess, I would say that liquid parrafin is even more selective of pure DMT than naptha... and certainly quite a bit more than Zippo fluid (which contains toulene).

SWIM also found that not all the DMT freezes out... perhaps his freezer would need to be even colder. The liquid he poured off still clouded when breathed on, and seemed to have significant alks inside. He will use that stuff for another round of pulls, and another freeze precip... but at some point, he recognizes he will have to evap it all to get all the goodies out. This could take well over a week even in a very wide baking dish. We shall see... turn that page when we get to it.

Anyway... for all those wondering about this NPS, it is a definitive thumbs up.

Been a long time since then, so I can't recall the brand name.

A little research should show you if whatever is available to you is truly Ultra Pure (aka liquid parrafin/mineral oil). I would still do an evap test regardless... and be prepared for epic evap times.

At least this stuff doesn't reek. I don't recommend inhaling any solvent vapors, but this stuff seems to be rather mild... wouldn't be surprised to find that burning candles puts more toxins in the air.

Good luck

I always figured this stuff would work but never got around to trying it after I got into sunflower oil teks. If it really is that selective it could be useful for cleaning up extractions from wild grasses that have lots of unwanted alkaloids.

I would like to hear what our chemists have to say about the use of mineral oils.

Hyperspace Fool I tried this but the UPLO froze? When I thawed it the salt fell to the bottom, is it supposed to freeze? It basically looks like a slushie.

I've looked at ultra pure lamp oil and - at least where I live - it is a mixture of n-dodecane and n-tetradecane, IIRC. AFOAF had great results with barbecue lighting fluid, which is also made mostly from heavy-ish alkanes but not as pure.

I think the longer chain alkanes are a better solvent for DMT and quite possibly pull less fats/waxes than naphtha.

Regarding the slowness of evaporation after freeze precipitation, try rinsing off the UPLO with ice-cold naphtha. You'll probably still need to clean up with acetone or something as there will be solvent occluded in the crystals.

And there, on page 3 of the pdf:

Quote:
STORAGE / TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE:
Ambient. (Product will freeze at 47° F (8° C))
STORAGE / TRANSPORT PRESSURE:
Ambient. (Product will freeze at 47° F (8° C))
LOAD / UNLOAD TEMPERATURE:
Ambient, above freezing point. (Product will freeze at 47° F (8° C))

which explains the crystallization in the freezer...

"C14-C16 hydrocarbons" means it's mostly n-tetradecane and n-hexadecane, I would wager.

Sir what does that mean? Did I fuck up.....I mean I let it thaw and I got a powder, assuming that it's fumarate.

Kerosine (paraffin) Is annoying because it takes for ever to precipitate and evaporate. I'm trying to speed if up and need help basifying if you reading this could help please, thanks.
