Have any of you tried coconut oil?

I recently started added just a few teaspoons to my morning tea and let me just tell ya. Holly shit. It's like serious all day energy. 2-3 tablespoons per cup of tea. It's not a caffeinated sort of energy, but a more natural felling clean energy...that keeps going and going and going. It's awesome! And it tastes perfectly fine...in fact i'd say it adds to the flavor in a positive way. Warning. Don't use a lot of it to cook an evening meal with. We did this the first night and neither me nor my wife slept very well that night.

Coconut oil is high in SATURATED fat...but it's also very high in medium chain saturated fatty acids. These fatty acids by pass normal fat metabolism and are quickly broken down into ketones which the brain readily uses for energy. The reason I became interested in coconut oil was from fasting. During a prolonged fast (a couple days or more) the body will begin metabolizing fats into ketones for energy. Once this kicks in you get a sort of peaceful easy feeling come over you.

I'm curious if other members have experimented with this.

Fractal I'm particularly interested in your thoughts as a Tony Wright 'follower' of sorts. I believe he was pretty big on tropical diets and such.

Peace

The stuff is great. I use it for cooking more than any other oil. I don't notice an energy increase (I am always wired) but I do really love the stuff, it seems and feels really healthy. And it tastes awesome. It has many other uses as well.

We use both raw organic coconut oil and butter. I have never noticed an inability to sleep when I take it at night but it is very very healthy for you..especially the oil..coconut oil is an amazing anti funagal medicine to take internally as well..kills off alot of unwanted things in the digestive tract. I also love to get young coconuts and drink the water and blend the flesh up into smoothies with fruit.

From what I have read the saturated fats in coconut are all medium chain like you said so it will not clog arteries the way other saturated fats will.

Coconuts are just great all around..the young flesh is so good for blending into recipes..the raw coconut butter we use to make raw cacao chocolates..the oil is good for detoxification and minxx uses it alot on her skin and hair even..it does not break down so easily with heat either like other oils so it is a good carrier oil to use for cannabinoids..and young coconut water is soooo similar to blood plasma..the water was even used in one of the world wars at times for immediate blood plasma transfusions..alot of people make a mixture of wheat grass juice and young coconut water and call it a "blood transfusion"..I like to drink alot of it when I am doing a juice feast for a week or so..more electrolytes than a bottle of gatorade.

So you guy's haven't noticed any bump in overall energy from it huh? Interesting. I did see a few others online talking about this. Apparently some Body builders are using it pre work out for extra energy as well.

When I used approximately 3 tablespoons in my tea the other morning I had a very strong stimulant response. It lasted the majority of the day. I slept fine that night. I only noticed sleep disturbances when I used a lot in an evening meal.

well..I do get some energy from fats..I like to eat raw sesame seed butter and it gives me longer slow release of energy..but fats in general usually slow the body down more and make you tired in theory..I find that I do better having nuts/seeds etc in the afternoon or night time actaully. First thing I have in the morning is fruits..well that is not true actaully because I usually blend some avacado with fruit for breakfast so there goes that theory..

I have used the oil for cooking, and making raw cacao treats. It is a good oil for your skin as well, drinking coconut water is a beautiful thing, so much energy. I believe Dr. Bronners soaps have Coconut oil in them, I am not sure. Hope this helps...

"Meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies evaluating the association of saturated fat with cardiovascular disease" (Abstract)

My experiences with moar ketones for energy were quite different from "peaceful easy feeling" foggy and lethargic would be a good description. Also called "low carb flu" (link)

As for energy gain, hm. The first few times I've noticed temperature increase although this could be due to the fact that I ate quite a bit and wasn't used to it. I've read (link) people having "boundless energy" after eating a stick of butter

I'm not really fond of it's taste (I prefer coconut cream or milk) but due it's stability it's a great oil to cook with. Tastewise, macadamia FTW.

This guy (link) agrees with you !
Got GVG ? Mhm. Got DMT ?

Here's another thread where some body builders are experiencing the same thing.

http://forum.bodybuildin...dex.php/t-107411131.html

It is worth noting that I'm very sensitive to stimulant.s Coffee in the morning (even a single cup) will seriously effect my sleep that night!

This is your metabolism increasing. It is another side effect.

A couple months ago I stumbled upon the fact of municipal water sources being fluoridated, and of the potential health risk invloved with ingesting to much fluoride. So I started using fluoride free toothpaste. Due to the lack of availability in local retail stores, I thought to look up a recipe for homemade toothpaste, which uses 50% coconut oil, and thus discovered the many benefits of coconut oil. Intersted in using it more as I haven't really done so yet. Still using up my tube of fluoride free toothpaste before I make my homemade batch. Can't wait! Very happy

I will try experimenting it's use as an energy supplement. Thank's for sharing and to all others who posted related info on this thread, thanks!
