Using FASW: left over FA in product? Options

So, lets say one were using Fumaric Acid Saturated Water (FASW) to do an extraction on his or her spice-containing nonpolar solvent. Let's say he/she added more than enough fumaric acid to convert all the DMT freebase to DMT fumarate. Wouldn't the resulting product, once collected, be slightly impure? (I.e. have some leftover fumaric acid in it)

Follow-up question: Wouldn't the exact same be true if citric acid were used? (what I am trying to get at is whether citric acid is just as good as fumaric for extractions, or whether fumaric acid somehow gives a more pure final product)

Yes there would be excess fumaric acid. Thats why when doing FASW you can either do a cold/dry acetone or IPA wash, or you can do bufoman's fumarate clean up:

Citric acid wont really work because dmt citrate isnt a solid, dmt fumarate is. You dont want a goo, do you?
