I ran into a recent copy of a very old and almost extinct text by Mr. Ott, I thought maybe some of you guys would find it interesting and I decided to put it here.

Enjoy

I got it autographed by him and had a nice debate with him on not using a strong enough base for his snuffs. Great info...

He was using baking soda, no? I never use baking soda but I do use sodium carbonate with excellent results..when based with sodium carb and extracted with iso it(cebil) is one of the most visionary psychedelics I have ever encountered. I have used lime as well but did not notice any difference really..

There are other methods as well I have yet to try like fermenting the beans first..some tribes do that..also some use stronger bases like wood ash that should contain some sodium hydroxide..bufotenine might form some other alkaloid at that high of a PH...

Thanks for the link I have wanted this for A LONG LONG time Smile

I wish I had a copy dorge..the book is leather bound right?..and only like 1000 copies were printed?..

This is a subject that nearly NOONE touches..no love for the snuffs or bufotenine!
Long live the unwoke.

Yeah frac bound in leather, with the copy number. Actual gold letters, and a hard cover for it to fit into... Just lovely.

It's a good book, have to re-read that some time. Lately I've been thinking about snuffs, masticatory plants and alkaline reagents again, because of remembering in the late 90's Rob Montgomery and others were saying that the alkaline reagents (lime, ash, whatever) were not necessary for cebil snuff to be active, and they just increased the volume of the snuff and made it more painful. That got me thinking, perhaps the whole alkali thing is a misconception? After all, you can also snuff tobacco without an alkali, and it's still potent. Purified chemical drugs are also sometimes snuffed or absorbed through mucosa is a salt form rather than freebase. Then it was pointed out to be by a wiser man that this is indeed so, but the alkali does make things noticeably more active with plant snuffs or chews. So, my understanding of that has come full circle and back to the orthodoxy Wink
I don't know very much about chemistry, but I find it interesting all the same.
