where do you like to be and what are your ideal settings for a DMT trip? what music do you like, if any? i believe that set and setting affects DMT trips more than any other substance i've done.

i have found that i prefer to be outside among trees and plants. however, as it is not always easy to blast off out in public as such, i must also accept the indoor trip. i love listening to music and i have found that music impacts the trip pretty strongly. i try to listen to stuff that's kind of chill but still trippy/esoteric... my last trip was done to Miles Davis' Bitches Brew.

anyway... i am still in search of the ideal DMT setup. what do you guys prefer when blasting off?

I always have my DMT experiences naked. (Not under covers.)

It’s not a sexual or even a physical thing. I want to present myself to the DMT realm as I truly am, without any pretense. It’s one way of expressing the humility I feel when entering into these experiences. It is a physical expression of baring my soul. It’s a deliberate act to make myself vulnerable – the first step of giving myself fully to the experience. When about to enter into a deep experience, I acknowledge that I’m giving up my body and mind, and I trust that I’ll be cared for. A deep DMT experience strips me to the core, and the literal stripping beforehand is an acknowledgement of what is to come. It is a form of intimacy – of me saying to the experience “this is me, this is all that I am, and now I’m yours”.

I’d have it no other way.

I used to sit on the beach naked and take mushrooms, smoke DMT and smoke salvia all the time. There is nothing like swimming in the ocean naken on a mushroom trip. I live down the road from a well known clothing optional beach..so it is not like I am some weirdo that hangs out naked at family beaches...

You sound like you're 15 because if you can look at your peen and understand what's going on you aren't smoking DMT right. Have a real breakthrough, come back and then call it sacred.

Naked under covers is pretty nice. I like sitting under a tree looking up into the canopy as the world disintegrates.

Another vote for nakedness here! The vast majority of my journeys are taken alone, without clothes and usually under my duvet. Occasionally I sit in the middle of my floor, but for a more relaxed journey I love wrapping myself up in my duvet.

My bed as it is the safest and most comforting place I can think of. I also find that clothes can get caught up and become uncomfortable, so losing them makes a lot of sense to save the possible distraction.

Haven't had the opportunity to do so in nature yet, but I probably will soon .

Ideal setting?

Somewhere comfortable and safe. Bedrooms with dim lightning or distant candles have yielded profound transformations.

Half lotus, full lotus, sphynx pose (kind of like childs pose), Vajrāsana aka "Thunderbolt" is a nice pose that I love- I wind up turning into a statue that is falling at the speed of light at times. O Timelessness! Go with the flow and experiment with mudras!

I have also experimented standing, like the tree pose, near rivers under canopys of beautiful forest. The balance is a fun meditation. Swaying with your spine. Watching the sunshine swirl cymatically through my wet existence.

Secluded beaches with no LEO activity are incredible settings. Especially a sunset, sunrise, or with a fire in the night. Be safe. The last thing you want is a dumbass cop rolling up on you after you just left this world.

I also share the belief that set and setting matter more with DMT than any other psychedelic i know of. Especially since Im always looking to break through, and being in the right setting is crucial.

That said there are few settings I enjoy for different reasons. I often enjoy being alone, these are usually the more exploratory journeys. I have seen the most amazing and the most horrific things on my own. I also sometimes enjoy doing it with a close friend, sometimes two friends, but no more than that. When going on adventures with a friend I have had some incredible shared experiences. I have had times where I truly felt as though we had been inside each others minds... and perhaps we were.

Being out side is nice because your close to nature, but I have found that there are usually too many distractions. If I am looking for a more natural and relaxed journey out doors is nice, but if I am looking to go to far ends of outer space I prefer being in a bed or a comfortable place where I can leave my body behind and not have anything remind me of my body, which usually brings me back to earth and cuts the trip short.

Music is something I am not sure about. Sometimes music will guide me though the trip. As if the words, the sounds everything was all meant to happen exactly when it did. The only music I put on really is Shpongle. However sometimes the music can be a distraction and I find myself feeling as though i didn't go as far as I could have because the music brought me back to earth. Do other people have similar experiences?

Finally, lighting is another questionable thing. Sometimes i like to be in complete darkness. This can help me break though and go to space because there is nothing out there for my mind to recognize. However in a nice dim lighting I have seen the most spectacular visions. I believe I have gone farther into space and had more meaningful trips (meeting beings, having conversations with entities and such) but I have seen more beautiful visions with the light on... Thoughts on this anyone?

during the trip i discussed in my intro essay i made an effort to communicate with my friend telepathically. although it was a failed attempt as i was tripping extremely hard and kind of just gawking at him, while he sat in the garden and just had his own experience. i had discussed the idea with him some time ago about how i wanted to smoke DMT together (instead of alone) and see if we could use our minds some how. i still think there's a lot potential to be had, but the right circumstances are essential.

also i agree, sitting comfortably on my bed is always a preferred place to blast off. i think comfort is %100 priority for the experience, plus it's nice to have a bed to bounce around on if you want to. although i am kind of eager to find a nice wooded area and commune with the trees!

if i'm in my room then i probably want to have music playing for my trip. i had a few smoke sessions recently where i didn't have music and it felt really uncomfortable. although this could also have been partly because of my mindset, i suppose.

lastly, i have not tried DMT in complete darkness... it sounds interesting, but i think it might lend itself to being more terrifying than usual. also i like to get up and move around a bit, so i might end up falling over or knocking into things. one thing i've had trouble with is actually seeing the bowl when i am lighting it. just last night i had a pretty great DMT session and after i started tripping, i couldn't tell what was left in my bowl or if i was even lighting it. i think low light is ideal... now that i think about it, darkness doesn't sound that great. i'd want somewhere to set my bowl and lighter, have some water, etc...


also i just wanted to say that during my trips last night i experienced objects changing shapes for the first time. everything in my room kept morphing right before my eyes, quickly, seamlessly... it was amazing. that's never happened to me in any kind of trip before

Nathaniel- you mentioned looking at yourself tripping being foreign to you. its a very powerful method of healing and transformation especially while coming down from a dmt breakthrough!!!! give it a try, strange and wonderful things do happen.
